It was outlandish to suggest it would be like the Flames having an Arena in Crossfield. Attendance will be fine, it might look poor due to capacity with the PL included but we know that is ***

Crossfield is definitely a stretch… but I’d say Balzac is a very fair comparison, and I think most would agree that would be a ridiculous location for an arena. Can you imagine?

That was from one of the various previous times it looked like something was close to getting done. As always with these sorts of things, any renderings released at this stage in the process will look nothing like the finished project.

Downtown Ottawa is already awesome. This will just add to that.

Kanata has a population of more than 100,000 though while Balzac is almost nothing. In fact I think Kanata is technically part of Ottawa now.

I get it though. I am a former Ottawa resident and have been to a few games. As a once in a while thing, I didn't mind it, but if I was a season ticket holder, I wouldn't want to do that trip all the time unless I actually lived in Kanata.

It is near N/NE Calgary and Airdrie though. They’re both on the metro fringes, near outlet malls, mediocre transit, zero atmosphere.

Andlauer announced that the Senators will be having their training camp and two exhibition games in Quebec City next year. He also hinted at the possibility of playing some regular season home games there stating that if you can have NHL regular season games in Europe, why couldn't you do it in Quebec City.

He denied that it's a prelude to relocate the team there, but it is hard not to see it as a pressure tactic on the City of Ottawa. It was recently announced that the decision for the proposed downtown arena could be delayed by almost a year, and even then, a positive answer isn't guaranteed. Andlauer does have ties to Quebec as well.

It's probably just a strong arm tactic, but I thought it was interesting.

I think I would have no problems calling Andlauer's bluff. Ottawa may not be the greatest market but it's much better than Quebec city for a lot of reasons.

Apparently they dressed up their mascot in a (half) Nordiques jersey yesterday and that sent the Sens fan base into a tizzy. Needed to issue a statement.

What a bizarre thing to do. I thought the new owner was supposed to be an upgrade on Melnyk? Also pretty lame to be raising hopes of people in Quebec City when he's just using them for leverage.

That's right by parliament and stuff, right? Sounds like a great location.

Hopefully you don't get drunk ass fans disrespecting the Tomb of the Unknown like those American ####s during the trucker protest.

Following the Katz playbook of arena negotiations. Going full Edmonton is never the way. Never.

He is an upgrade. Massive one. He is just dealing with at best indecisive and more likely incompetent city officials and approaching his wits end.

Didn't remember that but you would be correct https://www.pensburgh.com/2012/2/14/...-than-hed-like

Kansas City looked to be the odds on favorite, and made perhaps the most compelling pitch for the Penguins, but there were others in play too. Like Kansas City, Lemieux and co-owner Ron Burkle visited Las Vegas to discuss moving the team. And then they spoke with representatives from Houston. And Oklahoma City. Hartford and Hamilton, ON were considered possibilities.

The new arena is on the west side of downtown and the War Memorial is on the east side. Parliament is in between them (but much closer to the memorial). It will be about a 2km walk between the arena and the memorial.

But they're both on the same LRT line! Just a hop skip and a jump and drunk fans can be desecrating monuments in no time!

More likely they'll just cross the bridge and party in Gatineau though.
