Wrong. He had to let them know, or show up for work.

All we know at this point is that he failed to report for training camp, and the team has apparently asked for counsel from the league and PA. One of the possible remedies, but not the only one, is terminating the contract if Lehner continues to miss work without an excuse.
The reporter did not quote any sources, and the story specifically said that neither the Golden Knights, nor the NHLPA, nor Lehner's agent had spoken to the reporter ‘when reached by Daily Faceoff on Wednesday after normal business hours’.
In other words, they got a story from some anonymous source and ran it immediately without verification, when they could have talked to the team, the league, the PA, and the agent if they had only waited till morning.
The only story here is the journalistic malpractice.

I think this is a cap circumvention story. Vegas checking to see if NHL would let them get rid of contract in LTIR to create cap space at trade deadline. And then would probably settle with lenner for 100% of salary. Never let a good opportunity go to waste.
The is a near 0% chance lehner would lose his LTIR money by failing to show up for a physical. The NHLPA would fight that to the end and probably win.
Even the NHL isn't stupid enough for this. It's a nice try by the knights tho

The NHL doesn't care, especially when it comes to their golden child franchise.

You guys are missing the obvious... he was going to pass all the exams and be no longer eligible for LTIR, so VGK paid him the balance of his contract up front to not show up.
Player gets paid, contract goes away, team is no longer $3,689,984 over the cap (which they are right now).

My gosh, the conspiracies are ridiculous, especially with all the board discussions around mental illness we've had.
Quote:
The Golden Knights have consulted with the NHL on the issue, which in turn, has been in touch with the NHL Players’ Association regarding proper contractual treatment in light of a situation which includes unique circumstances.
|
What could be the unique circumstances here with Lehner?
As much as I'm not a fan of Vegas, of course the team would immediately go to the NHL right after the player doesn't show up, who probably, through his agent, communicated the "unique circumstances." They need to figure out how to manage the LTIR situation immediately and fairly. A team can't wait days on that because the conspiracy theorists might think bad things about capitalism. They need to go to the NHL, and the NHL needs to talk to the NHLPA about fairness.
One of the really positive things that seems to have happened under Bettman, and I feel barfy giving him any kudos, is that the NHL and NHLPA have generally worked more in partnership when it comes to player health, particularly mental health, and contract status.

Conspiracy theories and jumping to conclusions probably making this into a bigger issue than it needs to be. Player is unwell, and the team is looking at its options before acting rashly. Probably nothing to see here.

Lehner and his wife agreed to a having his NHL wages for this season to be garnished by one of his creditors.
https://www.reviewjournal.com/sports...losed-3090072/
Quote:
The case involving RMSPC Funding LLC was closed July 2, according to records.
Lehner and his wife, Donya, agreed to a stipulation June 14 to pay back nearly $3 million to the company, according to records.
The stipulation states that RMSPC will seek to garnish payment from multiple sources of income, including Lehner’s contract with the Knights this upcoming season, and amounts due to him that include holdbacks, escrow amounts and tax refunds.
RMSPC will limit its garnishing to 25 percent of Lehner’s NHL check, according to records.

But sure the most likely outcome is that this is a cap circumvention tactic by Vegas as opposed to someone legitimately struggling with their mental health.

Why anybody gives Vegas the benefit of the doubt regarding cap issues at this point is beyond me.

Is it not telling that these wild conspiracy theories about cap circumvention only seem to follow Vegas and Edmonton? It doesn't come from nowhere. Two shady scumbag organizations get no benefit of the doubt about doing shady scumbag things.
