This is the Calgary Stampede, I think they're still discovering the "Internet".

Reverse in to the parking spot. Free parking.
On an off-topic but related note, the failure of the City to monetize the ParkPlus technology in other municipalities, industries etc is a glaring mistake by the City that has cost tens of millions of annual passive income and its failure to do so is not discussed nearly enough.

There are lots of other systems like ParkPlus. It's hardly unique.

I thought the inventors were employees and there were lawsuits who owned the tech.

As per the link in Leondros' post, Stampede volunteers receive year-round free parking on the grounds (outside of Stampede obvs). Might be a good idea for a season ticket holder to volunteer for a few shifts and get free parking. Working in the barns is a good gig, and really easy.

I'm pretty sure the City has been selling it as much as they can. But I'm sure there are lots of other similar systems available.

Brought some purple gato to the memorial the other day, stayed for maybe 20 mins and was charged $16 on the Parkplus app.
Is what it is but I thought it was somewhat cold to be charging event pricing under the circumstances. I am sure it was just an oversight but they should have a non-event rate for the lot.

Back in 2009 when it was the world's first technology of its kind was when they had their opportunity. And to another poster, yes there were lawsuits settled in 2011 over ownership where it all went to the City and CPA, when they had another opportunity. They did try, they just failed miserably. There is no opportunity now.

Never pay for parkplus for a 20 minute,
I park on the street every work day for 2 years. The amount of time I forget to pay vs amount of tickets is very rare.

Being first to market is not as large as an advantage as people think it is.

I never said first to market as an advantage, a proprietary technology that includes several patented software and related technologies has its own distinct potential advantages. Especially in 2007-2009 when new technology was huge, YouTube and Twitter were in their infancy.

At the end of the day there's hardly anything unique about it. The talking point about patented software is meaningless to potential clients.

This is the dumbest part of park plus. Why doesn’t it just connect to a credit card on file like all the other parking apps. The pre-pay thing was ridiculous. (I haven’t used it in a while so maybe it’s changed)

The train does the job but it's honestly not a big deal to park in the surrounding area and walk 5-10 minutes to the dome. There are plenty of park plus zones that are either free or have minimal charges in the evenings that keep you out of the Mcleod trail post game nightmare.
The train is also not exactly cheap anymore - a family of 4 is ~$12.50-$15.00 each way now. Instead of forking out $30 return to ride the jammed train back to my car I'll definitely default to the drive and park method.

I could be mistaken, but I think at places with ParkPlus like the Zoo, they take a picture of your plate going in, and then going out again then just compare times. Anything over a certain threshold gets compared to those who have paid. No need to send a vehicle around, and backing in won’t help. I’m not sure if they’d do something similar at Stampede Park.

Every time I see this topic my mind jumps to a team relocation to an obscure middle American city.

Did you remember to end the parking session in the app when you left? That almost sounds like you stayed for 20 mins and left, but didn't turn off the session, so the timer/fee kept going until it maxed out at 2-3 hours. You could contact them and explain to ask if they can reverse a portion of the charge.
You can also leverage the parkplus app if you remember the zone. On occasion, I've needed to stay 2.5 hours and was in a 2 hour zone. After an hour, I'd end the session for about 5-10 minutes, then start up a new session for 2 hours and end the session 5-10 minutes after I left.
I know some people wait 5-10 minutes before turning on the session (ie: to confirm wait time at a restaurant). Then they'll do a 2 minute session as a marker to avoid non-payment if a car drove by.
If they sent me a ticket, I was always going to say that there should be a 5-10 minute leniency from parking to payment (ie: Pay station) or a 10-20 minute unloading situation. Or they typically wouldn't be able to prove I didn't move my car to find a new spot and just ended up finding my old spot again.
I agree the Stampede grounds could go to a set up like the Zoo and Science centre. It doesn't make sense to have cars patrolling those areas to add to the congestion.

I like it. Anything to improve efficiency is a good change.
I wonder how long they will keep ParkPlus/CPA though. The University District was with ParkPlus since it opened but switched over to Impark this summer. I don't necessarily like the move but at least Impark has kept the free three hours for now but I'm certain that will go away over time.

The good news is that it is less expensive than moving to Boardwalk.
