I like that deal for both teams to be honest. Nice haul for Nashville.

No way the Vegas first rounder will be better than the Sharks. So even if it is in the top 10, Nashville will get that pick

He's made some strange ones but this one seems to make sense. Arguably the best goalie prospect out there, so he just secured a key piece of his core, while not giving up anything huge.

There is a non-zero chance that NSH gets a top 10 pick outta this.
SJ for sure is going to remain a bottom 10 team and it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility for Vegas either.

Seems like a pretty good deal for them. Spare parts and a mid to late 1st

Grier just potentially got his number 1 goalie to play behind an impressive core of Smith, Ecklund, Dickinson and Celebrini. I think that's a pretty fair return for a goalie that is nearly ready to jump to the NHL with first round pedigree.
A likely late first rounder, mediocre to bad forward prospect and goalie prospect that looks lackluster at best isn't a whole lot for a team that is trying to pile up some high impact young talent in the sharks. It takes years to develop players like this and Askarov is well on his way and lines up with the Sharks eta.

Not sure I like that value even before considering they retained on Hertl until 2030

Isn't that Vegas 1st unprotected? If they miss the playoffs, Nashville did very well

It's unprotected for San Jose (they get it no matter what), but protected in this trade. If the Vegas pick ends up being top-10, the Sharks have the option of sending their own first rounder instead.
Either way, Nashville will get a first round pick in 2025 as part of this deal.

You have to take those deals where you can condense your assets into an upgrade. Every year theres teams that want to diversify their assets and teams that want to condense them, seem like NSH did well here diversifying their top asset that wasnt going to play for them. thats a good move.

Vegas barely made the playoffs last year, and Edstrom is still decent. We had people here complaining we didn't get him in the Hanifin trade.
For goalie who hasn't proven anything, and goalies are voodoo. Dustin Wolf has better numbers.

No way Vegas will be a bottom ten team next year. Best case for the Preds is Vegas just missing

yeah that's a win for both teams. Sharks get one of the two top goalie prospects, and they can easily spare those assets ... when you've already drafted Celebrini and Smith, someone like Edstrom makes for a decent trade chip. Like it for Nashville too, that's a decent haul for a guy who's asked for a trade. Win-win deal IMO.

I forgot about the retention honestly. That certainly makes it less "good".

If Wolf was 6'4 and putting up those numbers then he'd be the best glaoie prospect of the decade.

So essentially Cooley, Gridin and the Devils 1st.
That's a solid haul for the Preds, but expected.
Good deal on both sides.

Not a lot of mention of 6 years of salary retention on Hertl too. The Hertl trade was good, but this trade is an overpay, especially considering Askarov requested a trade.

Would you trade Wolf for that package? I think I would... especially if we had a guy like Saros locked up for 8 more years already

If Vegas pick is top 10....so will SJ 1st.
Vegas did lose some players in the off season including their leading goal scorer. I doubt it's a top 10 pick, but you can't say it won't be for sure either.
Edstrom was a 1st in a deep draft, tons of good goalies out there. I like that they went out and got him, but they paid a bit too much for a guy that requested a trade

I think that's a good gamble for SJ. Goalies are voodoo but this is a pretty sure bet.
I thought Tre wasted a ton of assets chasing goalies, and the lack of a top goalie really hurt the Flames when our core got better.
As far as NSH is concerned they did well in this situation. I thought they would've been better off trading Saros for a similar package, but that's my opinion.

What piece will they miss in this trade?
