Spector is in that strange position where he's paid to write pieces that rarely ever age well. Being bad at his job has been pretty fruitful for him.

congrats to Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway. Got paid AND a ticket out of Edmonton ... not bad at all.

They're still over if he doesn't go on LTIR. They painted themselves into a corner and better hope that Kane goes on LTIR until the deadline. They still need to add to their defense and have no cap space to do so.

Going forward they're going to lose Draisaitl which is bad for their success but even if he signs it's bad because he'll take a massive chunk of cap space.

They're in a terrible position and the only way out is to go scorched earth.

It’s bad drafting. Neither is worth a 1st at this point.

Honestly both teams got screwed

I hope both guys break out in a big way and have the Oilers seething with jealousy.

Will be fun to see Spector have to circle back and throw them both under the bus.

Bad drafting or bad development? I'd love for them to break out in St.Louis.

He’ll say the extra 3rd round pick makes it worth it. In reality, it’s a nothing pick because it’s four years away. Will have no bearing on this team for at least 7 years that’s if the oilers suddenly learn how to draft and develop a player outside the first round.

Maybe they just couldn't find a doctor that would agree that surgery is absolutely necessary?

TBF, in the 3 years prior to that only Bouchard is still with them as well. You have to go to 2013-15 to get a group of first rounders that stuck (and they only wish they could trade Nurse).

Oilers pass Pittsburgh to be the oldest team in the league. And get a 30 handle!

2 Pittsburgh Penguins 24 29.92

They have a little under $1 million in cap space with a 22 man roster that includes Kane.

Well they have draft capital to make a trade now. It won’t be simple with how poorly they have structured their cap.

Ceci trade makes even less sense now. Maybe Kane won’t go on LTIR.

Doesn’t seem like anyone was looking to give them a discount based on those offers lol

They also shipped a 3rd out with Ceci though. Confusingly seemingly unrelated.

… who does? The oilers might have the barest cupboards in the league between picks and prospects.

I could be wrong but I think there is some advantage cap wise if they put Kane on LTIR after the season starts rather than having to put him on LTIR before the season starts. Either way, I think the Oilers have gotten worse because they don’t know how to manage the cap.

Yeah, I misread the tweet from PuckPedia. I thought it was a little under $1M with Kane on LTIR. Back to my carafe of coffee I go.
