This summer, though, Klapka has had a focus on building strength and speed, and having a taste of NHL pace has proven to be good motivation.

"I did a lot of speed, a lot of stuff on one leg to get my stability and get my legs and core stronger,” he said. “That was off the ice, on the ice I worked on my skills, my skating.
“I think the sky is the limit. You can be better every day, every year when you’re playing in North American hockey.”

Klapka plays with an edge, and has spent time this summer to refining some of the more physical aspects of his game, too.

The size certainly comes in handy.

“I think if you’re big, you can’t be nice,” he said. “You have to play hard, you have to be physical, that was my role in the team in the games that I played.

“Comparing to a year ago, I’m coming into this season with a different mindset,” he said. “I’m expecting more from myself, and I know I’ve already done more work in the off-season; I did everything possible and I will continue until the camp starts.

“We’ll see what happens, but I know I’m in my best shape.”

Got me thinking. Pelletier not signed. Holding out for one way money?

Probably something like that.

I have doubts he would pass through waivers anyway. It's like the Valimaki situation all over again. I think some team would take a chance on him if he was sent down.

True. What’s different this year (as opposed to the year Valimaki was claimed) is that the flames are supposed to be the team to take a chance on him.

I mean, Pelletier could be asking for more money but that would be a mighty ballsy move. I mean, what does he have to stand on? What leverage? What anything? Hurt half of last year, yo yo player before that. His 1st round pedigree? Good luck to his agent I guess

Yeah Pelletier and valkmaki great comparison. Watch outrage when he gets sent down and claimed. That's my thoughts I don't think highly of him. Too small hasn't shown anything in NHL.

Wolf VS askarov contract is interacting. Askarov playing Russian card?

Askarov requested a trade

I am unconvinced of Pelletier's potential as well. It was reported that he put on some mass in the offseason, so hopefully he proves me wrong. I definitely think he deserves some rope and the benefit of the doubt next season given his injury struggles, but I am not holding my breath.

I think he probably gets picked off waivers if placed on them. I recall a lot of people saying that Valimaki wouldn't get picked up because many players pass through at the beginning of the season when teams are healthy and there is a flood of players on waivers. But a 23 year old 1st rounder that was on track prior to injuries is going to get a shot by some team.

I think there are fewer question marks around Askarov. Wolf has a high ceiling, but still pretty high bust potential as an NHLer. I think there is a legitimate case to expect more from Askarov sooner than there is from Wolf.

I was replying to you inferring that Askarov played the Russian card, which he clearly didn’t.

Wolf also got paid $875,000 because he didn’t request a trade

I can see your logic but neither of us are present during negotion so never could be certain . I am fairly confident and its logical however that askarov would have contract offsers in Russia. Agree to disagree. My point mainly is the discrepancy... Whatever the reason it's a bit of money for wolf. I wouldn't like it if I were him. Been there in corporate Calgary

I think Klapka solidifies himself as an NHLer this year. He’s one of the prospects I’m most excited/intrigued to watch.
