I love the sopranos so much. Definitely my favourite drama of all time.
As far as annoying characters, I can never decide who was a bigger hypocrite, Carmela or meadow.
Meadow ended up coming around in the end in the later seasons after she was through her phase, but yeah, she was annoying as a teenager with a bit of what Noah had, thinking she's better than her family.
I don't know if you guys like podcasts, but during covid Michael and Steve Schirripa launched the Talking Sopranos podcast. They usually have a guest from the show, and breakdown and share stories of each episode.
It's an awesome listen, and was great because of its length and it was during covid when everything sucked.
Also speaking of Vito, that whole storyline of him being gay is hilarious. From Finn catching him topping off the security guard, to the meeting when Carlo says "pitching not catching".
You're clearly a fan of Paulie. What are your thoughts of him? I love the guy - old school, hilarious and I was pretty sympathetic towards him. I think the situation with him and his mom obviously hurt him a lot, and emphasized also how all he wanted from Tony was more recognition and he always felt he never got enough of it and was put in a tier below from people like Chrissy and Silvio. Sensitive guy, and it drove him to do dumb things like try to cozy up to New York as if they gave a crap about him, but he again quickly found out that they didn't care about him the way he thought/hoped they did. Another great piece of character development by the show creators!
The writers did a great job reminding viewers just how uneducated all these guys were with all characters consistently using incorrect words and idioms. Bobby with Quasimodo instead of Nostradamus as probably one of the most memorable examples, but Little Carmine was the one he emphasized the most as he also liked to see himself as an intellectual.
Little Carmine "a pint of blood costs more than a gallon of gold"
The way they add little comedic bits.
What was the name of Chris's sponsor? Murmur? When Tony chases him out of the bing when he said Vito was taking it in the back lol.
Or Georgy always getting beat up over random things. Smoked in the eye by Ralphie.

I am not getting any work done today now lol.
Hahaha yeah. There was Murmur and then Dolan too. I can't remember if they were both sponsors? Dolan was the screen writer that Chrissy beat up eventually lol.

Neat thing about Tony the real life person is that he was actually in the mob. He took the role as serious as anyone could.
I thought his character was awesome. He was old school, but he also seemed like someone who had feelings like you said and getting zero recognition from Tony, along with his Mom being his aunt hurt him a lot.
Actually for the ending my conspiracy theory is that Paulie whacked Tony.
They always had a lot of tension, but it seems heightened towards the end even when Tony thinks about killing him in Miami. The last episode when he forced that construction job on him you can clearly see how agitated he is.
Also the team of Paulie and Christopher is some of the best TV ever. Pine Barrens. Shooting that waiter over the tip.

Dolan was in the program with Chris. I think they tried to hold each other accountable.
They beat him up during a lecture and forced him to write a screenplay for Chris movie LOL.
Chris actually kills him eventually after he got drunk at the bing.
He eventually murdered Dolan. His demise was quite the shock...
How about poor Davey Scatino (Robert Patrick). Tony set him up from day one to ruin him. He seemed like a decent guy, and was friends with Tony going back to highschool.
Then Tony sets him up to ruin in that high end poker game. Only for Davey to be bled dry by Tony and Richie. Just like in Goodfellas they force him into bankruptcy... then straight into the nuthouse.
It was such a great performance by Patrick as well. Another character you empathize with on one hand, but despise on the other for destroying his family's future.

I think she got worse. Hating on the FBI for how they treat Muslim Americans and thinking it’s no different than how they discriminate against Italians. In fact in the older seasons, she wasn’t nearly as delusional. Originally she was kind of hard on her dad about the mafia and then came to be just as delusional and hypocritical as Carmela.

The bust out. One of the best scenes. "#### that they are never getting paid anyways"

Then of course there's poor Sal Vitro. I was following a Reddit thread about which random character had the worst luck. Sal has to be #1, with the poor epileptic waiter who Paulie kills being runner-up.

Hahaha I get you. I was talking from the perspective of being a supporter of Tony, which was unintentional but comes out when you watch the show and begin cheering for Tony! She was anti-mob to start but ends up dating a made man's son. In my imaginary world, Meadow becomes a defense lawyer for the family and her husband gets made.
One of the top 3 shows of all time, incredible series. I can watch it over and over. I've watched the whole thing probably 3 times and each time I watch a random episode I often have a new view on how some characters come across in motivation and how evil/hypocritical they are.
And to me that's how I view most if not all the people in this show. They're either an evil person, a hypocrite, or both. Tony is probably the worst of the entire show.
One thing I'll never understand... why was the movie so bad? It was such a disappointment.I know Gandolfini passed, but they had so much material to work with. The origins of so many characters, with Dickie Moltisanti, Junior, and Johnny Boy (and Tony). Why did David Chase choose a different route, and backdrop it into a conversation on racial tensions and made completely new characters stars of the movie?
I saw it once at the cheap theater, and barely made it through. I can't believe David Chase worked on it for so many years, it was a large drop in quality from the show. The only saving grace was Michael Gandolfini filling the shoes of his Father, but he was barely in the movie.

Many Saints of Newark?
I was expecting better. Felt rushed and hardly had his son in the movie.

So many characters. Artie Bucco and his feud with the French dude, goes to collect his money and gets beat up instead.
Or his feud with Benny lol.
My only regret with that little story line about Artie getting ripped off by the French guy was that all we got to see was him opening the door to see Furio standing there. I wanted to see that dude get beat down so badly.

I grew tired of Artie near the end. I think the writers did as well, as he basically disappeared in season six. I still don't understand his relationship with Charmaine. Were they married... Partners... Seperated? It was confusing.

I thought I had read that David Chase wanted to make a Newark Riots movie but the only way HBO would agree to it would be if he added the Sopranos prequel element so it ended up being a jumbled mess.
