Another favorite of mine is James Garner in The Rockford Files. The theme song was great also.
Quote:
Jim Rockford is an ex-con and private detective. He was falsely convicted of a crime he didn't commit, but that doesn't stop him from using his ex-con buddies to help him solve crimes. Nothing comes easy for Rockford, but he works hard and usually gets shot at or beat up at least once per episode.

I remember being in Ontario with our family and only getting a few channels. We'd be playing outside but as soon as time came there were 2 shows we wanted to watch.
And of course....

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.

Law & Order: SVU
Fresh Prince of Bel Air <-- this is my guilty pleasure
Homeland
Beverly Hills 90210
Cheers
Bosch
Criminal Minds
Friends
The Wonder Years

Band of Brothers
I had a hard time coming up with 10. I wasn't sure if I could include Band of Brothers since it was just intended to be a short 10 episode series but I love it. If any of those shows made it to #1 on my list it would be Band of Brothers.
Off the top of my head… I’ll probably consider this subject to change
The Larry Sanders Show. Outstanding, Artie is one of the greatest characters of all time
Deadwood - Timothy Olyphant and Ian McShane are fantastic. Prepare for some cussin’
Justified
Bosch
Magnum PI (the original)
Game of Thrones
Other than that…
I liked True Detective S1 but other seasons have varied.. not sure if I’d include it based on just one season
I also have generally liked Fargo but not sure it makes the cut
There are a few comedies I can rewatch
30 Rock
Cheers
Frasier
Seinfeld
Futurama

It's a f###ing disgrace that this is the first time Deadwood enters the conversation.

Quite possibly one of the most insane TV series to ever last more then a year on TV. Soap followed the stories of two sisters and their families and was a parody of soap operas. Based around one of the best comedy casts of all time featuring Katherine Helmond, Richard Mulligan, Billy Chrystal and Robert Guillame. There was never a serious episode or social commentary, and the show took pride in utterly ludicris story lines. It also ended brilliantly with announcer Rod Roddy asking life and death questions “Will Jessica discover Chesters affair? Will Benson discover Chester’s affair? Will Benson care? These questions and many others will be answered in the next episode of Soap?”
Best Episodes.
S1.E13
The best of Soap, who killed Peter (S2:E0)
S2E14

(Yes Soap used the season and episode number as their titles)
S3E22
5) WKRP (1978–82)
One of the greatest television comedies ever made, and its hard to believe it only lasted 4 seasons. You would be hard pressed to remember a bad episode, because frankly I don’t think there were any. It was also a show that would outright surprise you, from absolutely zany episodes like the episode featuring the punk band Scum of the Earth, to heart felt episodes like the one that featured the Cincinnati Who concerts and the end of festival seating. Every character was brilliant, and the guest stars came in and chewed the scenery.
Best Episodes
Turkeys Away (S1E7
Baseball (S2E3)
Carlson for President (S2E6)
In Concert (S2E19)
Dr Fever and Mr Tide (S313 and 14)
The Consultant (S4E9)
Up and Down the Dial (S4E22)
4) Buffy/Angel (1997-04)
My column, my rules and I want to combine the two series. I love Buffy and Angel, and combined these were both well rounded, well developed and snappy series. And as insane as it sounds a series that involved Vampires, and Werewolves and Gods, managed to stay grounded in modern day societal problems. While Buffy struggled in season 6 at the start with the storyline of Buffy returning to life and being absolutely miserable, the show bounced back in its final season. Angel improved on the formula with even more dire storylines. But what made these series great for me, is they always had great villains Angelus, The Mayor, Glory and on the Angel side an extradimensional lawfirm, that was shepherding the Apocalypse. While Buffy had a positive ending, Angel ended with the off screen and on screen death of every character.
Best Episodes Buffy

One last show. Simon & Simon: Of course another good theme song
Quote:
Simon & Simon is an American crime drama television series that originally ran from November 24, 1981, to September 16, 1989. The series was broadcast on CBS, and starred Gerald McRaney and Jameson Parker as two disparate brothers who operate a two-person detective agency in San Diego, California. There was also some good comedy mixed in.
Deadwood would be another that makes my list. I only got around to watching the movie sometime last year during the pandemic. It's amazing they were able to bring back so much of the cast.
Shows that I loved at the time but didn't make my top 10.
Happy Days
Mork and Mindy
Barney Miller
Lost
90210 and Melrose wren't great shows but for me, that seemed like the beginning of water cooler television where you would discuss the show with your friends the next day and even get together to watch.
