Seravalli just reported that the Jets offered Rutger, Perfetti and a draft pick for Necas...

I don't get the Necas hype.

WHAT

Why wouldn't you accept that? I dont buy it. I guess Carolina could be the team that didn't like Rutger's answers when questioned...

Jesus if they had that offer on the table and turned it down then that's a huge overvaluation of a player.

Not really.

This is more like if the Flames signed Tkachuk to another 2 year deal that walked him right to UFA, after signing him to the 3 year bridge.

Tkachuk was also the most important player in the Flames organization; Necas isn't that to Carolina.

I think I like Necas more than most people here. I still think he has the ability to explode and have a few PPG+ seasons.

Well, hence the middling salary. A similar deal for Chucky started at his $9M QO.

We need whoever is running the Necas hype train to do that for our players.

If Carolina said no to that offer they are dumb.

Necas will have to work his ass off for the next contract

So there is that…..

If he is a true star then the Canes made a bad deal but they probably think he isn’t

Alternatively, if Carolina believe they are in contention for the Cup, they may be looking for player(s) that immediately improve the roster over the long term goal of developing players like Perfetti and McGroarty.

Nope, they legit just wanted more. They were asking for young roster ready players, top prospects and picks. And not some or the other. They wanted all of it in one deal for Necas.

They are crazy. Never seen someone so overhyped like this before who hasn’t accomplished a thing in the league.

If you didn't like the value you could get in a trade return when you were shopping him with RFA status...are teams really going to pay more now for a guy that can be a UFA in 2 years now with this deal.

To me it's either trade him now for whatever the best package is, or you have to try to get a 4+ year extension, a 2 year extension that walks him to UFA feels like the worst possible outcome.
Doubtful he’d sign for 4 years. Likely 2 or 8, or I guess 1.

I suspect that after they saw what the Canucks gave up for Lindholm, the Canes were motivated to extract a similar return for a younger and better player. Kuzmenko, Hunter B, Jurmo and a 1st sounds like close to the same.

They're asking for what I would consider to be significantly more.

Rental value could still be massive value for a player like him, especially if Carolina is a smart and puts him in a place to rack up points. If they can pump him up this season, they might be better off retaining this season at the deadline, giving the new team a year and half of rights to negotiate.

Have to think with the lack of term that Necas will be easy to move. Probably easier than if he signed a long term deal.

Why do you assume the idea is to move him as a rental? Is Carolina going into a rebuild?

For me, I see this as a strong possibility since all signs point to Necas and Carolina not being aligned on the level of player he is or can be. So, as this deal approaches into its final year, if Necas is still unable to convince Carolina that he's worth the contract he's apparently looking for, it'd be better for them to get assets back for a player who will leave as a free agent and that Carolina isn't enthusiastic about bringing back at the requested price. They don't need to be going into a rebuild to feel this way.
