I wonder how quickly (or if ever) this new site will get up to the level of CapFriendly.

And if it does, will another NHL team attempt to buy it like the Capitals did? And if no one does attempt to buy it and take it offline, how mad will the Caps be that they basically just wasted their money on CapFriendly?

Yeah, it makes no sense. There is nothing in the CBA that should make that possible.

Given all the resources nhl teams have, and given how this has been replicated a number of times already and in this case pretty quickly I don’t know why they don’t wander down to their local university. Leave a pile of cash, pizza and red bull and it will get solved for them too.

The Hockey News also just introduced their Lineups page, which seems to be an amalgam of CapFriendly/CapWages and the Daily Faceoff lineups page. A bit clunky, but hey it’s brand new. We’ll see where it goes.

https://thehockeynews.com/lineups/

Their Flames reserve list includes four Russians in their 40s

For me it’s hard to imagine a better solution than just recreating CapFriendly, which seems to be what CapWages is doing, so bravo to them!

When the day comes, and it will come, Ruslan Zainullin wil come to our rescue.

He's not the RW we deserve...but he's the RW we need right now.

The Hockey News Lineups is actually run by the former CapFriendly depth charts manager:

Fail by NHL to not own the original site.

Would be a big conflict of interest if they owned a cap site.

They aren't in the business of doing teams jobs for them.

Hope they add the draft picks owned/traded info, it's nice when you want to play GM.

I don't know who has the best and most accurate depth charts but I really liked using the depth charts on Capfriendly. It was quick and easy to lookup.

How so? They have to keep track of all that data internally anyway. Making it public would be no more a conflict of interest than releasing NHL Edge stats.

I could see them not caring enough to own and maintain a cap site, but I can't see the conflict of interest angle, let alone a huge conflict of interest. If they owned it would just be a public site like cap friendly was and then all 312 teams had equal access. What would the conflict be?

Yeah, they continue to add to the site.

Draft picks for the next 3 years now added, NMCs & NTC's.

Love it.

Too slow on trades. They need to improve on that.

I nuked CapFriendly from my browser history today

CapWages is the winner right now, still has a way to go to be as good as the incumbent. Puckpedia is not doing the job for me, clunky interface, page layout doesn't feel right and hard to navigate.

What bugs me most about Puckpedia is that their cap space list does not contain the team names, only teeny tiny logos that can be hard to tell apart (especially on a phone screen).

Capwages gives me a list of the teams by name, and if I don't want to scan through the list for a particular team I can click on the column heading and sort them alphabetically. On Puckpedia, the column containing the logos is the only one that isn't sortable. That was a bad design decision.
