Picking Morin - again - because for some reason I've really been in love with the pick since it was made.
I like when it gets to this part of the voting as almost every choice people are making can be justified along any number of lines. Also helps you appreciate how full the cupboards are getting, and it's fun to hear other posters hype up an alternate choice and get excited for a bunch of these guys to work out.

Is Solovyov not getting enough votes? You guys are lovin Grush but isn’t Solo like a Grush but a few years ahead on progress?
I had him fairly high initially, but then revised my criteria after some thought and deciding that all of likelihood to make the NHL, ceiling of the player and years since their draft year should matter and for me Solovyov's ceiling is maybe a number 5, though I think he will make it.

Younger players will always have an edge in these Polls when people are prioritizing ceiling. Solovyov is 23, he's played 10 NHL games. Folks have a good idea of where he can top out, he isn't likely to be a 2nd pairing D man. But He is likely to be a regular Flame Next season.
In 2019, I thought Lomberg should be ranked much higher than players like Gawdin, Feuk, Tuulola, Philp. Folks would respond saying "yeah we know he will be an NHLer but only on the 4th line" and sure he will never be better than a fourth liner, but damn if he hasn't won a cup.
I'm not saying I'm an expert of who will make it and who wont, but generally speaking folks criminally underrate having a high floor. Like I said yesterday, a bird in the hand is better than two in the bush.
I voted for Poirier. He's still got a lot of potential and had last season derailed by injury even more than Pelletier did. He's won a memorial cup and been a key defenseman on a top AHL squad. Last season I think he had 7 points in 4 games before being cut by the skate.
Personally I think the criticisms of his defending are overblown. He's able to defend rushes pretty well in my viewings and his ability to skate the puck out of his zone and make sharp passes goes a long way to minimize the time spent in his own zone.

I love Solovyov and I believe he will be earning a spot on the team this year. I do, however, see him topping out as a 4/5, which is still good. I just think that there are higher-upside guys left who may be a part of the core moving forward.
Solovyov looked too frenetic to me when he was with the Flames. Maybe that was just nerves. I haven't seen enough to really say. Right or wrong, I put a lot of weight when a player can play calm during the frenzy of an NHL game. Not slow, just calm.

He 100% was frantic at moments, but I though in others he looked very calm with the puck. This assist on Dec 5th against the wild was a beauty.
Seriously guys, why aren't more of you voting Morin? Easily the most well rounded of our defense prospects.
Always hesitant to vote so high for guys who had a worse D+1 season than they did in their draft year. Also there's still few great prospects on the board.
