Oh, wow I though Calgary Puck was still a haven from the gambling ads that plague the league. But thanks for your hot take.

He can’t be playing for the money at this point, can he? With how much he’s made in his career. It has to be hanging on with all he’s got to his hockey career. He likely has no plan outside of hockey. Happens to pro athletes often.
Ridiculous, but likely true.

Lol except it is literally when almost every NHL or athlete in general for that matter retires because they can’t keep up. I don’t think it’s some sort of bias.

You're welocme, I guess? Mind my tongue about the bet. My bad.
I'm a fan of Ryan Suter. I think he is a good hockey player. I also believe if a team puts him in the right spot he is capable of winning the Stanley cup.

On this forum, when you're 30+, you're basically a shell of your former self and basically worthless - get a bag of pucks if you're lucky. Get into 40's, you're slow as molasses and probably should be in a retirement home. I wonder how these fans feel when they start hitting 30's, 40's and even 50's.
Some of my riding buddies are hitting mid-50's and some even into mid-60's and they're kicking younger adults in their mid-20's to mid-40's! Athletes aren't the average joes sitting in front of LCDs/LEDs all day long.
For Suter, I'm sure his drive is to eventually win the Cup with a team before he retires. Some are lucky and can retire early and some just have more drive to continue. Looks at Gordie Howe and Jaromir Jagr. Even Ovechkin is getting there but he's got that drive to score until he beats Gretzky on that scoring title. Nobody's complaining about that!

If Gary fricking Leeman could win the Stanley Cup, any NHL player can. You just have to be good enough to stay in the league, and then get lucky by being on the right team.

And overwhelmingly they retire before 40 (or even 38). Last season there was exactly one player that started the season as a 40 year old. Mark Giordano. There was one 39 year old and 6 38 year olds.

just make sure you don't sign with a Canadian team or a team in rebuild mode to end your career if you haven't won the Cup yet

He was bad in the playoffs for the Stars but at league min he's quality depth as a 6/7 guy. He's had a hell of a career as he could hit 1500 games played this season and a career average of over 24 min/game.

I don’t question that Suter can play a bottom pairing role. But I’m not sure why StL makes the move? Have they no young guys needing NHL experience?

It's likely to add defensive experience and playoff depth for a long playoff run, like what Dallas did last season. You can't just plug in guys from the minor during the middle of a series if bodies start going down. They're probably bring in people without giving up any assets like on TDL day. You can also insert young kids in regular season and sit Suter in the press box and dress him when needed.

Not really... I just took a look at their d-depth and prospect pool and they really seem to lack D prospects that would be on the cusp of NHL duty.
Actually seems like a good fit the closer I look at it. Suter can be the #6/#7 guy and go to a team that should make the playoffs and thus have an (outside) chance at a Cup) where even if he isn't playing on the reg he can be hockey Santa and hand out his veteran presents.

I don’t see St. Louis having a long playoff run. Or probably even any playoff run.

I think they'll get in. They'll have to fight a bit harder to do it this year but I see them as a WC team.
