Yikes.
Might be okay for the Canucks (I doubt it), but that would have been terrible for us.

Whew! Never understood the appeal of Debrusk. A mid winger.

Canucks are doing this just so they can get a little love from SN to stem the Oiler lovefest. Unfortunately, I don’t think the Canucks moves today are enough to beat the Oilers in the playoffs.

Mantha on the wing of the Backlund line for 1 year at 3.5 is far more prudent than being married to a Mangiapane replacement for 7 years

DeBrusk is a great middle six winger with some sand paper and an ability, albeit streaky, to score goals. He is also close to, if not already, elite defensively and on the penalty kill. It feels like a long deal, but it is front loaded and movable after the 4th year.

On the signings the Canucks made today, I think the best part is not a single insider had a clue. Every single deal has been announced by the Canucks without an insider even making a peep before hand. Such a nice change from years gone by.

Lol.

That's because everyone the Canucks tried to sign said yeah no thanks and signed somewhere else.

Canucks went into panic mode and signed second and third tier UFAs.

The Canucks are no good.

Well, it’s clear from the previous comments that Debrusk was coming out West for family considerations. Oilers don’t have the space. Flames probably were in the mix seriously for a bit but not at those terms, especially years. Canucks had more space the anticipated without Guentzal or Lindholm so could offer that increased term.

Insiders were all hot and bothered the past week or so about the shifting of the deck chairs on the Leafs titanic…and Stamkos’ landing spot.

It's the people who are shocked by 7 years that are puzzling to me... I'm sure you'd have preferred if it was 5 but it's UFA day. Here are the ages of all the forwards who signed multi year UFA deals today when their deals end:

Toffoli:36
Marchessault: 38
Reinhart: 36
Guentzel: 36
Stamkos: 38
Lindholm: 36
Duchene: 34
Teravainen: 32
Stephenson: 37
Monahan: 34
Foegele: 31
Heinen: 30
Bertuzzi: 33
Duclair: 32
Perron: 38
DeBrusk: 34

Doesn't seem that insane to me.

Hahaha.

You acting like the best part of everything is nobody knew that the Canucks were going to sign Debrusk and Forbort smells like the ultimate copium. The Canucks didnt know it either until all the other UFAs said nope.

Canucks could not sign the guys they wanted, instead they signed Jake Freaking Debrusk to a 7 year deal. Of course no one is going to guess an idiotic move like that.

Heinen? Sherwood? Forbert? Did anyone care where they went?

Copium indeed.

The Canucks are no good.

Calling Debrusk elite defensively is some serious copium if you want to go that route.

He had one very good year prior to last year, but was dubious at best in his own end before that.

He's okay in his own end, nothing I would call special.

Congrats. You got yourself a serviceable 2nd line winger at a premium price for a long time. It's not what I would call a home run.

Get it hooked right into your veins. Get it all in there. The manufactured schadenfreude of a made up story line is all you get.

I'm just going off the JFresh analytics model. Looks good to me.

Most certainly since the only stuff I really have on DeBrusk are watching him in the play-offs and analytics models people are putting out for him. All I have to go on is the information others are giving me!

Canucks picking low hanging fruit for too much term.

That after Boston plucked two of their best players in the playoffs.

They're objectively worse than when they ended the season, a team that was eliminated by the No Goods.

There's only one fanbase here on the copium.

The off-season couldn’t have gone much better so far. Vancouver gave us their pick, missed out on Guentzel, Lindholm, Stephenson, Zadorov, and signed up for 7 years of DeBrusk.

I like this signing for Vancouver and makes way more sense for them than it would have for the Flames. Calgary probably could have gone 3-4 years at 6-6.5M but Debrusk gets max term and gets to play on a team that should compete for the next few years. With Debrusk 27 turning 28 it is not the worst thing to give max term but again it makes sense for a team that wants to compete.

Doesn't know anything about the player, just going off others information. Lol.

How is that not the ultimate copium?

DeBrusk has $38.5 million in the bank and knows he will never win the Stanley Cup cause it’s Vancouver. He’s on easy street. Get a 580 square foot non-leaky condo and before you know it, he’s retired.
