I know they weren’t really in a position to draft any but no centres sucks. That will. E next year

It’s funny, I was just checking to see if he’d gone yet before our Battaglia pick, and was pleasantly surprised he wasn’t.

How many defensemen do we have in the system now. Not sure where they are going to put them all.

Wonder when they will start grabbing some centers. We have zero centers in the hopper.

Mews is only the third U-24 RHD in the entire system. The others are Parekh and Brzustewicz.

it seems like we are building the defense with dedicated defensive defensemen and dedicated offensive defensemen

Mews had an outstanding Hlinka tournament where he sky rocketed in draft rankings where he got 1st round consideration

Then he didn't have a great season, so his stock fell.

That is unreal depth across the 3 players. Conroy and team seem to be killing it and I love to see it!

Dobber profile from April https://dobberprospects.com/2024/04/...024-nhl-draft/

Can't complain about taking a guy who some thought could go in the first at 74. Another guy I am curious to see at development camp... Flames gonna be teaching these D how to defend I would imagine since they can all score.

35. Henry Mews, RD — Ottawa 67’s (OHL)
Jordan Harris – Mews is an interesting case study. He’s very clearly an offensively tilted defenseman playing in a very conservative defensive structure in Ottawa. Despite the system, Mews produced at nearly a point per game pace this season, mainly due to effective puck movement and passing. The big question with Mews will be how much offense there actually is in his game, and can he extract that offensive potential in the higher leagues ahead? If he can, then he’s likely worthy of a 1st round pick. If he can’t, then his path to the NHL is a bit cloudier as he has just okay size and compete level but struggles defensively. If he hits, expect a power play contributor and a puck moving type of player.

Mews also went and played for Canada at the U-18’s after Ottawa was eliminated and was arguably Canada’s best dman.

Wild that a smooth skater like Mews was still available. Love this pick.
