When it comes to sauces, any sauce, if either of the first two ingredients is water, it shouldn't be purchased, imo. In the case of bbq sauce, as others have noted, it's really easy to make and you can play around to come up with endless flavour profiles. The key is to remember combinations you kill it on.

I do the same, although I mix this with my hot sauce of choice (Encona Extra Hot, not sold in Canada), a bit of worcestershire sauce and half a teaspoon of minced garlic. Goes very well.

BBQ sauce never goes on as a marinade for me when grilling, it's used only strictly as a dipping sauce.

Going back to my previous recommendation of Kinder's BBQ sauce, I picked up a bottle of their Honey Hot while in the US on a road trip and it is exceptional. It is my favorite flavor for a go to sauce right now. It is not very hot but has a tiny bit of kick and it is not too sweet. Very tasty stuff.

Is there such a thing as a good low sugar / sugar free BBQ sauce?

I tried one G Hughes BBQ sauce and it was pretty bad, but that's the one I often see in stores. I did try their Thai Chili wing sauce and it's quite good, I use it on chicken sometimes.

So I thought maybe one of their sauces tastes ok but I guess with no sugar there's probably no caramelization of the sauce on the BBQ...

Not sure how you can have a sugar free BBQ sauce that actually tastes good. Part of the appeal of a good BBQ sauce is sweetness offset by smoke, heat, fruit, garlic, etc.

I make a pork rub that is good on a lot of stuff, many easy recipes online for that. Maybe try a mix yourself without adding sugar and see what it tastes like? I know, not a sauce.

Sweet Baby Rays makes a sugarless version but I bought it in the States. I've never cooked with it though.

I don’t know if it really counts but the PC white bbq sauce is pretty amazing for grilled pork and chicken.

Can definitely substitute a combo of munk fruit sweetener with allulose will csrmelize/brown like sugar does. If you are looking for sugar free sweet in a home made sauce, that would definitely do it, or certainly worth a try anyway

I've never had it but the thought of white BBQ sauce makes me cringe almost as much as ranch on pizza instead of tomato sauce.

I understand but it’s actually really good! I would never have ranch on pizza. Gross

If you are in the states, Kinders Sugar Free is my new go to. Just the right amount of sweet and if you want kick you just add your hot sauce of choosing.

Monk fruit has an aftertaste that I think many might find a bit odd. If trying to DIY a sauce with that, be prepared to do a lot of experimenting. TBH, lots of those sugar replacements have that type of taste. Monk fruit just has a bit more, so you may have to tinker around to allow the flavors to synergize rather than clash. I like Monk fruit and I drink it as a hot beverage, but I know there's a baseline taste that weirds a lot of people out.

TBH, I'd suggest a more simple approach. Try making a sugar free cola bbq sauce. Something like this (I just randomly searched one) but replace the regular Cola with a sugar free pop of your choosing. Then further tweak it to your needs and wants (ie: spices like paprika, cumin, bay leaves, cloves etc.).

https://ourbestbites.com/sweet-smoke...ola-bbq-sauce/

I make soy sauce chicken/pork ribs with Cola or Ginger Ale, so I'm pretty confident a BBQ sauce with pop as a basis should be pretty tasty. Something like this, but I'll also put in stuff like tea bags, bay leaves, cloves/cinnamon/star anise, cumin etc.:

https://www.seriouseats.com/cola-chi...sauce-and-cola

Other than specific spices for specific tastes, just think of the other stuff is basically water, salt, acid or sugar with slight variations in flavor (ie: cooking wine, soy sauce, sugar, cola, oyster sauce etc.).

Try Just Sweet Enough by chinook. They have a bunch of stuff. I don't recall BBQ sauce but I wasn't looking for that specifically. I bet they have it.

I think people need to do more reading on substitute sweeteners

Many publications I have seen are not encouraging
