Usually teams want to see who is available at the pick before trading form.
My guess is teams have already had a bunch of negotiations and most probably have a decent idea of which teams are prioritizing which players at this stage.

SJ -> Celebrini
CHI -> Levshunov
ANA -> Silayev
CBJ -> Lindstrom

seems to be what has hit the rumour mill, so I imagine teams could know what other teams are looking to do.

It probably means Buffalo is trading that first round pick before the draft and they just wanted to get a 2nd round pick for it before they do. And on San Jose’s side… they probably have a good idea of 1-3 guys that will be there at 11 that likely won’t be there at 15 so they’re willing to move up.

steep price to pay for 3 spots. Sabres once sent 21 and 42 to Calgary for 14 ...

Sharks must see a ledge and their pick was below it.

If Eiserman is their guy, then Celebrini/Eiserman could be their Pettersen/Boeser... and they have Smith too.

Yeah this has to be it.

Eiserman unlikely to go top 10, but maybe gone by 14.

Still think I would have waited until at the draft to do it, but maybe Buffalo wanted to have a more for-sure plan in place too.

SJ has a plan, Grier is very smart.

Seems a bit high to move up three spots, but sharks are probably targeting a player. I would have thought they’d hold up on making the move and see how the draft unfolds

Buffalo said a 2nd rounder or no, so that's the price for 14 -> 11.

Why not wait to see how draft shakes out and do it when 11 is about to pick.

Because it might not get done at the draft.

Both teams get to see how the draft falls. Perhaps Buffalo won’t do it then. Or SJ.

I'd argue 2012 was far and away the worst draft over the last 20 years though.

And Eiserman is available and find out Buffalo decides to draft him themselves?

It’s not like they are given an option.

Or Eisermans gone and Sharks pull their offer

The defenseman guess makes the most sense to me, but maybe 2 or 3 they're interested in.
So maybe not an exact player they're going for.

Why pull the trigger now? Seems to me that the draft is wide open after the first few picks. The Sharks couldn't possibly have the intel on what nine other teams are doing.

They would know enough to narrow it down to at least 2-3 players that will be available there that likely won’t be there at 14. Plus if they wait, a player may drop to Buffalo that makes Buffalo choose to bail on the trade.

I like what the Sharks did. Quality over quantity. Besides, the Sharks still have 4 picks in the top 53.

I want Conroy to use the 2nd rounders to try and move up from 28.
