He was terrible in the playoffs. Not sure why anyone would sign him at his age and what his play has dropped off to.

Some of the buyout and cap management some of these GM's have done over the years is downright embarrassing. Everyone knew when Jim Nill gave him that deal, that is was an awful one.

He is still getting paid by the Lightning though till 2026-27

I looked it up and was a bit confused at first. Then I noticed that he was one of the compliance buyouts so they don't count against the cap.
For those with short memories like me. After the last lockout for the CBA, the league allowed the teams to buyout a player (or two?) and not have that buyout count against the cap. They still had to pay the players they bought out though.

His cumulative cap hit for Wild and Stars is still less then the cap hit for Nurse

I got curious on the compliance buyouts.
Here is more information:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compliance_buyout
From that article I see that the Red Wings bought out 2 players in after the 2013 lockout and they also bought out 3 players after the 2005 lockout. The GM who did that? Ken Holland, who was also announced to be mutually parting ways with Edmonton at the end of his contract.

He played a big role in them losing to Las Vegas last year, too.
They had to use him this year with Hakanpaa injured and for whatever reason letting Calgary get Hanley for free.

I’d rather have Gio as a senior statesman if we want someone around that age
At least it would be feel good vibes as opposed to a guy who is known for his slashing prowess

No, no they don't. Zero need for Suter on the Flames.

I'm kidding... except about Calgary having a desperately bad defense this year.

Actually though. He's exactly the sort of guy they'd bring on for a song - 1y1m. A lot of teams could benefit from him on the bottom pairing I would bet.

All he has to do to guarantee a contract in Edmonton is cook up a rumour about some past sexual misconduct and he’s in like Flynn.
