Wonder if Boston is looking at putting an offer sheet together and they needed their first back to do so

The value of a 1st round pick, that’d be why.

Offer sheets will use 2025 draft picks and beyond.

All the 2024 1st rounders will be used this Friday.

This is why the return was so underwhelming. I imagine teams weren’t lining up to offer top value for 1 year of a tandem goalie.

Also, Boston must think Korpisalo can be a decent goalie insulated in their system.

Pretty sure I read that ullmark was not interested in going west. He had some trade protection. Probably hard to trade him west if he has no intention of re-signing.

I guess since Ulkmark is basically a UFA rental (1 year left), that cuts his value. But just getting out of the Korpisalo contract is nice for Ottawa, at least most of it.

Watch him have a better year than Ullmark does in Ottawa haha
I would honestly take that bet that Korpisalo has a better save percentage than Ullmark next year.

One of those teams knows how to play a strong defensive system, and the other one is Ottawa

On the other hand, I expect Korpisalo next year to be significantly worse than Ullmark this year, and Ullmark next year to be significantly better than Korpisalo this year.

Ottawa gets a clear #1 goalie, and Boston clears the decks for the #1 they want while getting a serviceable backup.

It was important for the Flames to get their deal done first and I think we'll continue to see that as other goaltenders are traded this offseason.

Amazing trade for Ottawa. I can't believe Boston would take that contract back.

He will be better by default playing for the Bruins who play a goaltender friendly system. No guarantee Ullmark is the same goaltender playing behind the Senators but I imagine he will put up better numbers than Korpisalo did this season.

It definitely makes the Markstrom trade look quite good.

I wonder what the Sens are going to do about their cap situation. They have 11.3 million for 8 players and need to sign Pinto and then 7 other players. Brannstrom is as good as gone as his qualifying offer is 2 million. Really wonder what the Sens would give up to get rid of the Chabot contract for a much cheaper dman who can play top 4.

Hamonic, Chabot and 7 for Anderson and the Dallas 2nd.

NJ 2025 1st is probably better that the 2024 28th overall
Bahl and Kastelic are probably similar in value
2M for Markstrom not playing or 3M for 4 yrs of Korps?

The Flames got the better deal but only slightly IMO

It wouldn’t really surprise me at all. I think over the past little while the goaltending position has become more a product of the team in front of them than ever before.

I still can't get over how bad this deal is. Korpisalo is such a negative that I daresay Boston would've done better from a pure value standpoint by trading Ullmark for future considerations. How do you not get another asset to take on that contract?

Who is Swayman going to bro-hug now? I kid. It was a cool dynamic seeing those two.
