He never said "right away". He said management wants to "get back into the POs and compete for a cup". He never said what the time frame was.

I thought Weegar mentioned fighting for the playoffs next year at some point. I guess you can say that about any team in the offseason, but I got the sense that Weegar is expecting the Flames to be competitive sooner rather than later.

What was he going to say? Yeah the team on paper looks like complete ####, I want to win but with the guys we have in the locker room we will be in the lottery.
Conny told us during our exit meetings that we are going to be bad for a few years. Really excited about that.
Again rebuilds are hardly ever sold as a rebuild. They still need to sell tickets. They need to set an example of the culture. All playoffs mean is they will compete every night and lose 5-4.

Management certainly did the opposite.
However, there was a segment of the fan base that actively cheered for the draft lottery, with slogans like ‘Fail for Nail’. (I'm so glad they were rewarded by actually getting Nail Yakupov, when they might easily have ended up with a good hockey player.)

This one is even more hilarious. Someone said Katz is an amazing owner doing everything he could to get the oilers into the finals.
People love to crap on meddling owners. It’s since been brought to everyone’s attention that Katz override the management team and made them take Yak over Ryan Murray.

That was when the season was winding up. I’m talking entering a season with the stated purpose of tanking.

He never said that - he did say he thought they’d be in a wild card if they didn’t trade away their expiring guys.
As for timing - no doubt he thinks it can happen sooner because players often don’t think about team building very hard.

Conroy telling them this type of thing in exit interviews puts this 100% on the players to decide for themselves what they are.
Huska needs to grow some balls and stop being everybody's buddy. He has a short leash IMO. Edward's needs to suck it up and Give Conroy and Iginla FULL support to run this team and fail big if they have to ....just F ing try !!!
Tell them they're gonna be awful . Leadership needs to step In here.....guys like Kadri, Weegar, Backs, Raz , Huberdeau, Peltier, Coronado and popsicle need to show the F up at training camp fit and on fire ready to compete.
Show the prospects were gonna compete and be in every game. The culture of this team needs an enema....God damn if the oilers win the cup it'll be horrible listening to that crap.
No need to suck....who wants to watch a bunch of guys skate around feeling sorry for themselves ....insert the Bruce Boudreau speech here.....

first would be okay if Brad didn't give it away. Prospect was fine as a throw in, not his fault.

Yes, and he said nothing but good things about him. Sorry to dissapoint. He says Huberdeau works his ass off, everyone loves him, he desperately wants to win and they share the blame for not converting a lot of great chances.
O'Brien also added (and he's right for a change) that offence should go through Huberdeau more. Give him more touches. That's true, especially on the power play.

It was harder than most years to get a good player at the top of the draft in 2012…
Yakupov, Murray, Galchenyuk, Rielly, Hamphus Lindholm, Dumba, Pouliot, Trouba, Koekoek.
That’s the worst top-10 of the last 20 years.
