NHL has to share the TV revenue with the players as well (it counts towards HRR). Expansion money is only split with the owners.

Just speculating, but perhaps the pool of hockey players is larger due to the fact it is an international game as opposed to to Football which is pretty much only the US?

Considering there's 133 division 1 football schools in NCAA, I think that the player pool for the NFL is sufficient enough to handle 2-4 more teams (most rumours around NFL expansion is 4 teams and having all 4 be in Europe).

He prefers an expansion team over taking on the Coyotes. The Delta Center is terrible for hockey and Smith is talking about building an NHL Arena and maybe a new arena for the Utah Jazz. They could turn the Utah Grizzlies into their AHL team.
The Population of the Wasatch Front is larger than Calgary. I don't think Salt Lake will have a problem supporting an NHL team.
With the Olympics more than likely coming to Salt Lake in the next Decade he probably gets some money to help with the new building.
Another group is working to bring an MLB team to Salt Lake. They have a location picked out and are ready to build a stadium. MLB should be expanding once the Oakland A's figure their #### out. This group is also building a new AAA baseball stadium and will relocate their Salt Lake Bees AAA team to the south end of Salt Lake County. They think the valley can support an MLB and AAA team.
I am all for it and hope they bring back the Salt Lake Golden Eagles name for the Franchise.

With the increase in on player ads the team should just skip right to the point and call themselves the Utah WEALTH GENERATORS LLC

You know that Red Bull literally have their name in a couple of European soccer teams, and New York? With ads on jerseys now, and knowing Bettman, might not be too far away in the NHL...

The Magic Underwear is my favorite so far.
Lot of directions you can go with gool ol' Joseph Smith, he was a notorious scam artist, thief, liar, scoundrel and convicted criminal, also married 39 women and a 14 year old girl for good measure.
The new team would have zero issues with money if they were owned by the Morman Church, there are some estimates that value them at $150 billion and they have an insane amount of investments.

The NHL is a smaller sport, which also means that smaller markets can sustain a team. With hockey, you don't need to fill a 60-80k stadium, you only need to fill a 15-20k stadium.
You also have far more games per year with hockey.
Operating cost for an NHL team is probably about $200 million/year vs. 500ish for an NFL team.

I'm surprised it has taken this long to potentially get Salt Lake City a team. Probably a good market and a great Western stop for the league.

They'll be involved with the WAGs, at a minimum.
