I mean, with all the trades likely coming we're probably going to be watching several more Flames prospects at this tournament, we just don't know which of them they are yet.

Morin was around a ppg only until recently, so I think that is a miss.

A lot of these selections are based off of relationships and perceived fits. Yes, lots of great players miss out, but a great deal of that is due entirely to the teams staff that year more than merit.

Lots of good-to-great NHL players never played in the World Juniors, including several top 5 picks.

It’s not a very good measuring stick, and probably more dangerous because a good performance can over-inflate a player’s value.

He has been just under a PPG all year, and missed some games early. It's not a miss, he simply hasn't had 'wow' numbers, so far this year. I am not crapping on him, I'm just saying, that likely contributed to not getting an invite - tons of guys deserve an invite, and they go with the hot hands.

And yes, of course the people running it are going to favour guys they know. That's how life works. None the less, if he were the leading point getter among defensemen in the Q, he likely gets that invite. But he isn't.

Since you asked…

Afghanistan: didn’t hand over bin Laden after 9/11.

Iraq: America’s single greatest blunder of the 21st century, so far.

Libya: multinational NATO intervention in the wake of the Arab Spring revolutions, in direct response to atrocities committed by the Gaddafi regime as well as the rebels.

Yemen: see above, minus Gaddafi.

Somalia: pirates.

Syria: ISIS.

Here endeth the lesson.

It’s now the Honzek and war crimes thread.

EDIT: Not to be confused with E=NG, which is exclusively the war crimes thread.

Yeah, the WJC is not the prospects showcase that it was once touted to be. We have learned that there is virtually no correlation between tournament success and NHL career success.

The WJC is a fun tournament and a nice chance to watch competitive hockey during the Christmas break, to see some high-end prospects, but that's about it. For every Jordan Eberle and MA Fleury, there are plenty of Justin Pogges and Jesse Puljujarvis.

The other thing about Morin is that he is still eligible next year. The kid is just a puppy.
