Vrana is 2.5 years older I think. He counts 2.6 against the cap (but makes over 5). He's a pure rental as a pending RFA. Why the Flames would be renting I don't know. Plus the off ice stuff which I hope gets attention. His big years came with playing top 6 on the offensive minded Capitals. He's nowhere as useful as Dube.
This is really a "grass is greener" comparison.

^I think it would give the Flames an opportunity to change the mix. See if the rental can have chemistry with a guy like Huberdeau.
At this point I'm not sure if Dube is worth his QO, that's why I think of him as a free agent as well.

Which ones? He is very good at converting on opportunities. He is great in transition, flying on the wing with speed. Furthermore, he has a very good accurate shot, so he's good at finishing cross ice passes, and when pucks find him in front of the net.
Last year he had 11 goals in 25GP with a shooting percentage of 17.5. The season he played before, he scored 13 in 26GP, 20S%. Before that, he had 19G in 50GP 19S%. He was on a 52, 60, 59, and 62 point pace respectively in his previous 4 seasons in the NHL, if he could only stay healthy.
He's bad at defending. He takes a lot more penalties than he draws(like Z). He doesn't make much of a difference on the PP, and he mostly played in sheltered minutes against worse competition.

No it's half of that since DET retained 50% when they traded him to STL. His caphit is $2.625M

Hehe, yeah someone that can put the puck in the net and potentially score at a 30+ goal pace would be nice.

He was only so short in games last year because he was sent down. I think the stats need to allow for the fact he can't stick on a roster.
And this year he has a whopping 2 goals.

He was sent down by DET, after he took some time off struggling with personal issues(likely substance abuse), and joining the player's assistance program.
He was only traded to STL in Mar last year. As far as I know, he was never sent down by STL.
He does only have 2 goals, and it's far from a sure thing, but I would like to take a flyer on him, so I could see him play with Huberdeau. That's why I wouldn't be too disappointed if we traded another player in need of a change of scenery(like Dube) for the guy.

I know when he was sent down. It was still last year.
St. Louis doesn't seem to think very highly of him. No 85% player should even be in a trade/waiver discussion like this but there he is.

Yeah, I agree that the 85% number is off. I think that it should probably be around 50-55, especially when you consider his defensive play. I still think he's an exciting player and I like his ability to put the puck in the net.
I'm not trying to suggest he's a surefire waiver pickup, or a trade target. Just an interesting way to change the mix upfront.

I guess it means that JFresh tends to weigh offence more heavily than defence. I guess insofar as it relates to salary, that's fair enough. Impact for the team - well, look at Draisaitl as a C versus say, Bergeron.

And if St Louis is willing to send him down and eat the cap penalty for that, they'd probably be willing to retain some salary in a trade too.
