Any halfway decent goalie can look fantastic for short periods of time. It's just more noticeable when it happens in the playoffs.
Remember when Brian Boucher got five consecutive shutouts? If those had been playoff games, he'd have played a perfect series and people would still be oohing and aahing about it. Instead, he's remembered as a fairly average goalie who happens to have a line in the record book.
Schmid just caught his groove when more people were watching.
