I'm being realistic here as the premise of the post is flawed. Nothing was implemented.
We most certainly can talk of our experiences with food but nothing was 'supposed to go down'. There has been no economic deflationary pressure on food prices in general.

It's so flawed you're posting in it!
Go read a few articles, the grocers said citizens should see some lower prices and more sales.
I'm not trying to complain about the prices. I'm more curious if people have noticed prices go down a bit cause I have not.

Stealing meat and cheese has been a thing in Vancouver for a long time. The word on the street was the thieves would sell it to those .99cent pizza by the slice places and that was how they managed to sell their pizza so cheap. Realistically, it was probably because the pizza was cardboard with a minute amount of cheese on top.

Maybe we need a grocery consumers union.

The federal act that is supposed to control how much a grocery supplier can raise prices requires voluntary buy in from retailers. Sobeys and Safeway already signed on, as have others, and the two refusals have come from weston and Walmart. They both act as their own suppliers on a lot of high margin items.

Maybe the grocery store CEOs are still reading through Jagmeet's stack of paper from the committee meeting?

The only places for reasonable prices anymore are Walmart and Costco, and even those have gone up.

Stealing meat has been a thing for like forever here too.
I remember 10+ years ago some guy downtown near crack macs trying to sell me packaged meat from under his jacket that he clearly just stole just a few minutes ago from the grocery store that's close.

I feel really sorry for those who struggle financially and could barely afford decent food two years ago. I don’t know how they’re managing now.

Exactly, I can’t relate because I have buckets of money. Apparently
Rich people get these experts to deal with their over abundance of money because they have so much, they don’t know where to store it.

Seriously....I pay 80 cents to a $1 per pound of banana where I shop....must be a fancy place to charge $10/banana. Some kind of farmer's market where each banana is hand massaged twice a day while it grows?

Apparently not so bad that you might, you know shoot them a tip if they work at a burger place though?

This is going to sound super #hailcorporate, but I have personally noticed prices "coming down" in the last 3-4 months or so.
Take something I buy basically every week - Sunrise Traditional Tofu, it basically never went on sale. Here's what I saw:
Pre-2019 as long as I remember: $2.00 a pack
2020-2021: $2.79
2022: 3.29
March 2023: 3.99
September 2023: 2.99
Last week: $2.57 on sale, regular 2.99
Did it go up? Yeah. But I have noticed things stabilizing, and some things have started to go on sale more to bring it back to a reasonable price. No name pasta, PC brand cookies, canned tomatoes are three other things that have seen a similar pattern.
The biggest thing I'm seeing is that if you're not a little bit crazy about watching for sales and stocking up, you're in for a world of hurt. Pasta used to be $1.00 a pack pretty much all the time. Now it's $2.29 regular price, until I saw it on sale for $1.25 for the first time in a few months. Immediately stocked up.

It's like City taxes. This year, based on inflation I'm actually not mad about the 8% increase they are planning because everyone wanted it.
But food pricing is essentially a post carbon tax epidemic. Again, something people voted for and wanted.
Why are people so surprised with an outcome? Carbon tax is brutal for the consumer it's like GST on energy after you pay your tax burden so the amount should be doubled. Because Canada is not a polluter and it doesn't mean we can't get smarter about climate change and conserving waste, energy etc. Every level of city hall is hit with an inflationary cost due to this tax. Therefore you get what you vote for.

It seems whenever my grocery list includes a lot of meat, the overall cost goes up considerably. In my experience, meat prices tend to vary considerably over a relatively short period of time. I have always attributed this to changes in demand. As the price goes up, people tend to eat less meat, and as the price goes down, people eat more meat.
I have always found, by keeping a close eye on meat prices, one can save a lot by buying when prices are low, and freezing in sufficient quantities to last over the period when prices are excessive.
