I think the magic touch was being announced by Lanny.
He was destined to be a stud at that point.

I most certainly did. Didn't think he was a top 5 prospect but was on the outside looking in. Happy for Zary, I'm eating crow

The Eating Crow Line!
Many of us assumed Kadri didn't care and wouldn't find a fit.
Many had Zary as a B prospect that wouldn't amount to much.
Many had Sharangovich as a "4th liner" return in a botched trade.

Definitely. But to be fair, he has never really wow-ed anyone in camps. And he's been good, but not exceptional, in the A.
Personally, I have been a big fan since we drafted him, but for the last couple years, I've been waiting for him to show that he's ready, and he really hasn't. Pretty hard to rank him ahead of Pelletier or Coronato.
Then he gets a chance and boom! - he pops! You just never know what a player will look like when they're making the jump from the AHL to the NHL.
So I don't think fans got it wrong so much as he has just taken a big step and looks comfortable in the show. A happy surprise! And goddamn, have the Flames needed that?!

This is why it is vital to just have a lot of prospects moving up through the system.

I like being excited about things, especially in a season that there hasn't been much to be excited about, but I also like to temper my enthusiasm/expectations. Someone tell me how I should balance these two are such a small sample size. Zary looks really good, question is can he keep it up.

Who knows. But isn't it exciting to find out? Beats watching Troy Brouwer or James Neal.

Me 100 percent with Kadri, it's still early but I'd gladly eat crow if it means the team is better. I hope he keeps it up.

I am not sure I agree with that. I recall Zary being very good in both last year's and this year's training camps. I guess maybe never "wow-ed," but he has always looked to me like a NHL player.

Yeah he seems to be one of those guys that may play better in a more controlled style of the NHL than with players further down the totem poll.

Yeah me too on Kadri.
I was certainly concerned Zary's development with injuries etc.
I was never to throw Sharangovich a label of 4th liner after a handful of games in order to support a trade was poor.

Only been a few games but if he keeps playing at this level - you really have to give kudos to Flames development of the player. He wasn't a guy who came in as a young guy and was ready. They let him build his game up over a couple of years in the AHL and now looks ready to be a long time pro.
