Unless he got divorced he isn’t waiving that NMC
Happy to see things going bad for him though. The grass isn’t always greener and this is a cautionary tale for others. His bad decision really did cause a ton of harm to the team, in basically every way.

You consider it just because it takes two years off the Huberdeau obligation which hopefully coincides with coming out of a rebuild.

I think the ship has sailed, for now. I've loved Gaudreau since he was a top prospect in Boston College and loved seeing the extreme growth he had since playing his first NHL game in a Flames sweater. Just like most of us, I was absolutely gutted when he bounced and left for free agency, leaving this organization with nothing. We banked on him signing here, we met all of his demands. I guess it just wasn't in the cards, it was disheartening and demoralizing. Though, that doesn't mean I wouldn't welcome him back, just not right now with this current team's state. We need to figure out how this team can manage to play and win games without an elite talent carrying us. We are seeing how hard it is when Huberdeau isn't playing up to standard, lackluster play from many of our vets, and inconsistencies.
If Gaudreau were to ever put on the flaming C again in his career, I think it would have to be when he is a little older with less term on that contract. It's also contingent on Calgary figuring themselves out and becoming a consistent playoff team again. That is going to take time, so while we are figuring ourselves out with our own team and team identity, that door to welcome Johnny back can slowly start opening back up too. As of right now, both parties need some figuring out to do.

Hard pass. Gaudreau's decision to leave a 50 win team for one of the worst teams in the league speaks volumes about his desire to win.

When I think I want Gaudreau back, I get excited, but then I remember if I had the luxury of picking him or Tkachuk, I'd be picking Matthew every time and twice on Sundays.

When he found out the Flyers wouldn't take him, and he decided he wasn't interested in New Jersey he probably should've just turned back around to Calgary and made up with the Flames.
Signing his future away to a team that obviously was far from his first choice was evidently a mistake.
Continuing in Calgary would've kept a good team together, and he enjoyed it by all accounts. Despite the distance, his family didn't seem terribly bothered either. I think it fell on the in-laws more than the Gaudreaus.
But that's the way things go sometimes. I hope his wife's career has at least worked out there.

Hard pass.
A guy who doesn't take the game seriously off the ice, goes to free agency with no plan and ends up in Columbus really sounds like a guy who you want to have around a rebuild.
Johnny said all I know is I fly to Calgary at the end of September and fly back home in April.
Even the guy in the dressing room said it felt like it was a guy who seemed like he was going to leave.

If the BJs see it as a solution the Flames could get them to overpay with youth.

People will often tell you about their character with their actions. I don't want him anywhere near the team going forward. I'll stick with Huberdeau thank you.

this. It was his right to leave as a UFA, but the way he did it absolutely sucked. I don't know why this should be revisited ... he chose this. So, enjoy Ohio.
Now, if they want to trade for Lindholm, I'm all for that.

If we trade gaudreau for huberdeau it would be like having sign gaudreau for 1 million dollars cheaper than we were planning to sign him. Trekiving you genius

The skeleton of a deal is just too obvious
1st+Sililnger+cap off-set (Roslovic?)
I've never thought the Kent Johnson version was realistic, but there are some interesting dynamics in play:
- They have a very expensive long deal to Johnny and need to get him going. Elias has some of the most established chemistry in the league with him (though I wonder if Tkachuk was the real key there, but let's let that be their problems)
- Team needs to turn the corner here
- GM under pressure. Has been in the job a long time. Time is running out
- Johnson seems to be a little out of favor
I think it's not likely, but perhaps those factors create the right pinch point where you could get Johnson + cap offset for Elias.

I've already stated that I'd take him back in a heartbeat, even if we had to swap the contracts. Johnny may not have his heart in the game now that he's no longer at the place where his star shone brightest, and there's got to be some sort of regret there for how things ended here.
Even strictly from a numbers / style of play perspective, I think JG offers more per dollar than Huby ever will for the Flames.

And even leaving his position as part of the plan to eventually get gaudreau back in calgary for a cheaper AAV? That's some 4D chess.

Dam right. I'd take him back any day to get rid of Huberdeau but I doubt it will ever happen.

I envy those who got to watch Huberdeau in his prime be an actual elite player at one point. I'm sure he was fun to watch. Never really watched him before so I guess I missed out . Obviously others here have watched him, but it's beyond disappointing that I've seen only maybe 1 or 2 plays his entire tenure here that left me satisfied that I saw an elite skillset. I have significantly more faith that Gaudreau would turn his game around here, than Huberdeau suddenly figuring it out. As pathetic as this deal would be if it came to fruition, I think Gaudreau would be welcomed back here with open arms in this city. I sincerly believe that Gaudreau's departure was 100% pressure from family and he would have re-signed here if those around him had left him to choose on his own. Pity it happened how it did.
Huberdeau is on the verge of becoming this city's whipping boy any day now, and it's going to get very very ugly when it does happens. I legit feel bad for the guy if he doesn't turn his game around. I like the guy as a person. But man, he just sucks at literally everything on the ice. He is straight up...bad.

Straight up for Huberdeau, all day. But nothing else would make sense.
