maybe the Flames want to see if they have enough nhl capable talent so they might make trades for all future assets...instead of win now.

I agree that a trade is likely in the works and this is the organization figuring out what it has in the minors to eventually fill spots.

Forecast calling for Trade Winds in an Oesterle direction.

I am wondering if some of the cycling is to see what we have in case Hanifin or Tanev gets moved. Are any of the kids NHL ready? Can we move on from either of them (or both) without having to bring in another top 4 D?

Gilbert is. Solovyov seems to be. Poirier would be up here already if not for the injury, IMO. Now, DeSimone gets a look.

IMO the Flames can maintain this 'level' with another young D playing every night. And by Feb they might even be able to get away with having two of them.

(boy, it sure would be easier to move on from Hanifin is Kylington was here, sigh)

I wonder a bit if Edwards might finally be willing to take a different approach, after seeing that stinker of an outdoor game and the early results this season. Haven’t seen this much movement this early in I can’t remember how long.

Judging by how many young guys are getting auditions I think we’re going to be seeing some vet defencemen and wingers launched out of here soon.

My guess would be Hanifin and Dube to start. I’d also guess Vladar.

They have nothing to lose.

Oesterle is a magician out there- he can turn any touch of the puck into a scoring chance. On his own team.

I hope Kuznetsov gets a shot at some point. I thought he was the Flames best defender at the young stars tournament. Smooth is the best way to describe him.

I really liked Kuz as well, but it looks as if Solovyov has passed him on the depth chart. I think Solo has better puck skill.

I think DeSimone is a couple of years older than Hanifin/Andersson etc. I wouldn't count him as a young D. IMO we can't lose both Tanev and Hanifin without bringing in a top 4 D, or a prospect that already played very well on the 3rd pairing for at least a season(like Liljergren).

I grant you that we could get the same results(losing 6 in a row) with any prospect in the top 4. I question how beneficial it would be for said prospect's development. I think a prospect needs to be playing with a vet that constantly communicates, so he can better adjust/transition to the NHL. Either that or start with more sheltered minutes.
