I don't see any difference between this and having commercials for prostitutes. Morally reprehensible and gambling has become an absolute vice and disgusting habit.
It's no shock to see the whores at Rogers in bed with gambling scum

I know this has been brought up before, but I'm getting sick of this.

Every ad is our provincial government giving away our CPP and getting you to feel good about it. I've seen that ad at least 100 times, on NHL and every. commercial. break. in. every. baseball. game. There are a good 30 commercial breaks in a nine-inning baseball game, and in EVERY ONE is that goddam "we're looking at an Alberta Pension Plan" garbage.
THAT is some degenerate advertising and WE ARE PAYING FOR IT. THIS is where our surplus is going.
I'm not a fan, AT ALL, of gambling sites, but I'm not FORCED to gamble. Danielle Smith is going to force us to. With our CPP. It's sick.

Watch on ESPN+ and there are no ads.

Why is having a provincial pension plan good for Quebec but bad for Alberta?

The gambling ads are annoying, and agree that kids don't need to be inundated with them, but on a personal level, I despise the fact I am overexposed to Oilers greasy fricken personalities in commercials on a Flames broadcast. It's the biggest single factor in despising Sportsnet right now for me. Yeah, yeah, star power, I know, but come on, know your audience in a regional broadcast.

Stop supporting the NHL.
Stop watching. That is the answer. I have already. Haven’t watched anything this year. Rogers and the NHL are ####ing garbage, disgusting companies.
I don’t even know why any of you do anymore, the game sucks now and is not entertaining in the slightest. You want good hockey where people actually care go watch, literally, any other league. #### the NHL.

This begs the question: is having a provincial pension plan good for Quebec?

This is one of the main factors why I refuse to watch NHL hockey anymore. I do not want my children exposed to gambling marketing. It reminds me of the tobacco industry targeting children by including baseball cards in cigarette packs.
I agree with Mr Coffee. The NHL is a shameful and disgusting organization.

SN+ shows no gambling ads - just the same 4-6 ads for City+ streaming, or some Quest trade jerk rambling on about William Nylander, or Volkswagen or Hyundai ads. I was glad to not see any gambling ads last night.

On the topic, I wonder how many NHL players are gambling on their own games. It has to be impossible to police no?

Agree, they banned running commercials for smoking and liquor "for everyone's good" as it could influence kid so this should be no different. How many lives are ruined from gambling?

I think it's been mentioned before but this is a huge problem in Australia. Of course, there are very few regulations on gambling advertising, much fewer than tobacco and alcohol promotions, at least. Stunning and unacceptable double standard.

It's tough. I want to not support the league and this gambling ####, but, sadly, I can't just give up on my team.
I have no doubt in my mind the only way to regulate this properly isnt by consumer action, but, legal. The government must step in. If prostitution was legal, and cocaine, do you really think there wouldn't be commercials featuring Evander Kane doing rails off some whores back? And the cocaine would be in the shape of the Oilers tear drop?

The betting shops were always a pretty grim sight in Ireland, too. Was always blown away by how much casual gambling there was on everything and am seeing the same attitude more and more here with the younger employees.

I don't know if other countries have poker machines (like slot machines in Vegas) in suburban pubs, but they are completely ubiquitous here. Certainly grim walking in there.

Definitely have forgotten about VLTs and the alcoves of shame they’re often put into. I guess I’m fortunate enough to have a wide variety of pubs to choose from that don’t have them, but am also only a few blocks away from two actual casinos so perhaps my rosy-coloured depiction of what our current gambling situation is from the rest of the world is rather misguided. Perhaps I was just happier that up until now we did a much better job of keeping the shame hidden, and that’s a state I’d like to go back to.

Partied at the Alcove a few times while attending Sait. Cheap wings and rough people. Good times.

Why watch the best players in the world when we can watch the ECHL with part time firemen or realtors.
That's a hell of a take.

That won't stop the ads, it'll just re-price them cheaper.
People need to stop gambling. If revenue drops at the gambling site, they won't be able to afford national commercials at prime spots.
