This is where I am at, now as well.

I have been a supporter of Hanifin for a long time, as he has all of the tools to be a #1. However, he has not progressed much at all, over the last couple seasons. He is turning 27 in January, and is entering his prime years for a defenseman, but he hasn't shown any ability to take the next step. That being the case, I am less keen on re-signing him to big money, and I think they should trade him, as he will garner a good return.

The Flames haven't had a lot in the pipeline for Dmen (another reason I didn't want to trade him), but Solovyov, Poirier, and especially Morin (even though he is a way's away), make me feel a lot better about moving on from Hanifin.

As you say, extend Zadorov, and re-sign Tanev if he'll do 1 or 2 years.

he is a great player but being on a great team certainly helps, especially with fancy stats

If Hanifin wants more than $7M AAV, Conroy better move him at the deadline. Guy is not worth anything over 6.5

I think this is a good deal but I had no idea Toews was going to be 30 already by the time it kicks in.

Man, I remember thinking Lou stole 2 picks from Sakic for a bottom pairing nobody when he was first traded to the avs.

Some players take longer to develop.

I think it’ll be interesting if Hanifin gets to market what his deal looks like. I’m very conflicted on this player.

If he signs here for Weegar money ok. But I think more is terrible.

I’m not so sure the lack of a bona fide trade market isn’t a bit indicting in terms of what we think he’s worth and what the rest of the league thinks he’s worth.

Granted a historically terrible trade market this year for sure.

But still a young top 4 d man should be flying off the shelves no?

He should. But it is, without question, the tightest cap market ever. Covid kept the cap down, and now every team is jammed to the eyeballs - it is making trading next to impossible.

Hanifin will be worth a ####-ton, as we approach the trade deadline
