This is where I am at, now as well.
I have been a supporter of Hanifin for a long time, as he has all of the tools to be a #1. However, he has not progressed much at all, over the last couple seasons. He is turning 27 in January, and is entering his prime years for a defenseman, but he hasn't shown any ability to take the next step. That being the case, I am less keen on re-signing him to big money, and I think they should trade him, as he will garner a good return.
The Flames haven't had a lot in the pipeline for Dmen (another reason I didn't want to trade him), but Solovyov, Poirier, and especially Morin (even though he is a way's away), make me feel a lot better about moving on from Hanifin.
As you say, extend Zadorov, and re-sign Tanev if he'll do 1 or 2 years.
