I agree. Sucks that they are sent down but it's a better short term move for those players to be better in the long term.

I have a similar feeling. No one really took that #4C spot. I thought Zary had the best showing. Can't say I am a fan of Schwindt in that role.
Waiver wire will be very interesting. I thought a guy like Zohorna looked great for PIT this preseason.
There are still a lot of free agents/unsigned PTOs. I keep thinking about old man Stastny as an option. Also both Ritchies are still an option for the 12th/13th forward.

Vladar lays a stinker to our arch rivals
*demote Wolf*
Zary is the only forward to stand out positively all night
*demote Zary*
Some things never change with this team.
How is Hunt here over Zary after that game?

of the bubble guys left at camp,
Pospisil, Petersen, Hunt, and DeSimone would need to clear waivers to be assigned to the AHL
Schwindt, Klapka, Solovyov are waiver exempt

How many games do Markstrom/Vladar get to prove they are NHL goalies before Wolf is called back up? 10-15?
Don't think this team can risk the season by stubbornly playing underperforming netminders again.
Both are on very thin ice, IMO.

So you want Wolf not playing? Markstrom is starting the next two games at least

Petersen is the only one I think has a chance of getting claimed, and an unlikely one at that. But wouldn't mind Petersen sticking around for an extended look, either.

This is where the walk meets the talk for me, if they are more or less equal (subjective of course). One player is on the steep upward slope of their career, the other on the slow downslope. One is an investment in the future, the other a filler for this year.
Take a chance Connie!

Huska said that he doesn't see Zary as a 4th line center. He would need to change his game/role a little so he can play on the 4th line. Huska sees him as a top 9 player. Hunt didn't lock a spot either, but I don't think it changes anything if he misses any of the Wrangler's camp.
It seems there aren't many suitors for a Vladar trade just yet. Waiving Vladar seems like poor asset management especially if you consider that Markstrom will be starting game 1. Why keep Wolf for the luxury of sitting on the bench and opening the door?

Markstrom has sucked for over a year. If it was me I'd be starting Wolf in both those games.

You need Wolf and Zary playing as much as they can right now. Not really surprised or upset at those moves. Both will be with the big club sooner or later, maybe sooner. But for the moment they both need to keep playing a ton.

Zary did fine in the camp but there is nobody in the top 9 that he beat for a roster spot, they do not want him on the 4th line so he goes down, makes sense.
Trading Vladar or Markstrom at this point makes no sense, too many uncertainties, nothing stops Flames from trading them during the season.
I bet Schwindt makes the team just from the fact that he is a big Center who can play good 2 way game, I do not think he's had that good of a camp but I would rather have him than Hunt. Solovyov will get cut just because he is waiver exempt, but will be a first call up and he will play NHL games this year.
Either Zary or Pettersen will be a first call up if there is an injury in the top 9, I bet they will give it to whoever is having a better season for the Wranglers. I would prefer Pettersen over Schwindt or Hunt but there is just no space for him right now

Oesterle has been shoehorned a roster spot from day one of camp. He has played in five preseason games, and has been slotted next to either Chris Tanev or Nikita Zadorov in all of them except one where he struggled heavily. Ilya Solovyov on the other hand hasn't played with a single NHL regular at any point throughout camp despite being a standout early. Organizations always like to say there is opportunity available but they very rarely actually allow for competition to develop on an even playing field.

I really don't think Schwindt is an NHLer

I mean it's the same talk and excuses every year.
"They just want these guys playing a lot in the AHL, when someone struggles they'll be the first call-up"
"They'll be up with the big club pretty soon, no worries!"
"No spots for them in the top 9, they'll get a shot soon though"
And then none of those things happen. Perish the thought that some people wanted to see young players on the team right out of the gate...

Other major factors:
-Wolf was AHL's best goalie and MVP in back to back years
-Vladar was 56th out of 62 in goals saved above expected per 60 minutes
Wolf's development is the utmost importance. Ideally, he should play 20+ NHL games this year for said development.
Vladar was one of the worst goalies in the league last year judging by the best/most important goaltending metric. All statistical projections have Wolf likely performing better than Vladar in the NHL.
But goalies are voodoo. So who knows.

Why would they waive Vladar?
They wouldn't explore trading him until they know what Wolf is capable of in the NHL. I'm sure there have been calls from other GMs.

I mean a rookie will be in the top six most likely, nine for sure. Another one got hurt.
The Flames are substantially younger this season and Wolf will get a chance IMO.
You are being mad just to be mad...again this roster is for ONE game. Cap and waivers are a factor like they are for every team.

Ruzicka, Duehr, Pelltier, Coronato all made it to the big show despite this lack of opportunity.
Oesterle/Schwindt/Hunt might get the spot right out of the gate, but if he they have a bad stretch of games they would be replaced in no time.
That's one of the benefits of having the Wranglers in the same city. You can call players up on a daily basis.
