Good to see Poirier healthy enough to play.
He was electric last preseason, and had a hell of a year in the AHL.
Probably too far behind everyone else at this point to make a meaningful push, but can still certainly make a lasting impression.

Its roster constructs like this that makes the pre season such a gong show. Who benefits from this? The flames see their players against nobodies, the oilers see….nothing of value in their players. To be clear every team does this by icing crap on the road.
Not at all sure of the solution to this problem, or maybe it’s not really a problem.

It's not a problem, and I suspect that despite the talent disparity coaches see much more than we do to make these games worthwhile.

Good players are getting comfortable with linemates and systems against easier opponents.
Depth players get a sink or swim moment to see how they respond.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Clearly showcasing Vladar for Tampa
Kind of surprised to see Tanev with Oesterle and not Poirier, giving a young kid a leg up. Same for Honzek on the 4L

Not sure I'd call it a problem.
But it certainly makes evaluating more difficult.
Some players play better in more structure, some play better in less.
You can't see the overall ability of a guy that you'd like to see on your third line if he's playing with scrubs or against scrubs ... or with scrubs against elite players.
It seems like a roster deterrent for young players to me.

So if there's no Oilers or Flames broadcast that would mean no centre ice as well? Can't imagine a Flames Oilers game is broadcast by anyone outside sportsnet.

That would be correct. Only way to watch it would be via the streams the teams provide.

Only Oilers streams are coloured yellow.

I just hope the Flames PP gets some reps.
But you're right the pre season is too long. 6 games would be plenty. 8 is a joke.

Smart by Huska to not play Markstrom against the Oilers - they broke him in the playoffs, and I would even say his gift to the Oilers in that second game last season broke him again and he never recovered from that.
Just keep him away from Edmonton, period. They are his daddy.

Not sure how often the Flames will be on the PP but you know they'll get a ton of PK time against the Oilers.

What a brilliant bit of player management. They need to build up Jack Campbell's confidence. How do they do that? Throw him out behind a couple bottom pair defenders and bottom 6 forwards who will barely play in the regular season, and a bunch of C-level AHL'ers.
I hope the Flames light both goalies up, and with that lineup I would expect them to.
