I’ve liked Ty Smith all the way back to junior. Couldn’t believe it when he got traded, and I can’t believe he’s on waivers….

Will be interesting to see how he does this year. Kylington made Valimaki feel pretty expendable and then all of sudden he was out for the season

Sutter made Valimaki expendable because is/was a ####ing moron. Full stop.

Pittsburgh has a couple of PTOs still in camp, plus whatever AHL guys they have. Sounds like maybe Smith isn't in the Penguins plans even as a 'tweener.

I’m no Sutter fan, but Valimaki and some unfortunate injury issues made Valimaki expendable.

Sad. I wonder if Huska could do something with him. He’s always been amazing with D-men, back to his junior days.

To be fair he was playing his way off the AHL team while he was here. It would be tough to crowbar him onto the big team if he can't make the little team. Since then he's been "playing in the NHL" in Arizona.

Ty Smith played for Dan Lambert in Spokane in junior. Also a former teammate of Sharangovich…

Doubt Ty Smith makes it too far on the waiver wire.
Would like to see the flames try and pick him up of Kylington is out long term.

Ty Smith is one of those undersized offensive d-men who is too much of a defensive liability and not productive enough offensively to secure a consistent NHL roster spot. If you already have a solid d corps and need more offense from the blueline, he might be a good option with sheltered minutes. Certainly wouldn't look out of place on a second PP unit. But definitely a #6 on most NHL rosters at this point.
Remember Raphael Diaz? Kind of like that.

Man I loved Raphael Diaz. I always liked the tweener/depth defensemen. Schlemko was a beauty too.

No, he’s been playing very well in Arizona. Not sure why people have a hard time accepting that Sutter had a hand in knocking Valimaki out of the organization.
Just like how Sutter had a hand in knocking Huberdeau down 50 points.
Create a toxic environment, and things fall apart.

Because Sutter wasn't coaching him in the AHL when he sucked there.

.871 is still pretty brutal, Silovs a rookie, Demko and Colin Delia had better GAA and SP.
