Its not like the home roster is much better for "Veterans" either:
Zadorov
Weegar
Hanafin
Backlund
Sharangovich
Coleman
Mangiapane
Only 7.

All I can get

Vladar will likely see a lot of rubber (assuming he's the starter in Seattle).

Hunt yes, Sutter no, hasn't played 100 NHL games.

this quote from the Flames Nation article, might be the actual answer- and makes sense
However, typically the veteran requirement is waived for split-squad games, and in practice what actually happens is teams dressing their veterans at home and sending a skeleton crew on the road early in the pre-season. Case in point: the Flames had seven and five veterans dressed in their first two pre-season road games. (They dressed 10+ at home and in their two later road games.)

This is correct as far as I can tell.
For non goalies:
30 games played the previous season, OR
100 career NHL games
For goalies:
dressed in 50 games the previous season, OR
100 career games
OR
A first round pick in the most recent NHL draft.

It's possible there is a 2x multiplier for Sutters

Maybe Pike accidentally typed in Brent, instead of Brett.

Article states
The league defines a “veteran” for the purposes of pre-season games as someone who meets one of four criteria:
A skater that played in 30+ games during the previous season
A goaltender that played in 30+ games (or dressed in 50+ games) during the previous season
A first-round pick from the most recent NHL Draft
Any player that has played 100+ career games
Brett Sutter, signed to an AHL contract with the Wranglers and likely attending main camp on a PTO, falls into the fourth category (and counts as a veteran).

Pike says Sutter qualifies, but doesn't give any reason why, when Brett Sutter doesn't meet any of the criteria.

Bittersweet for me as tonight will be my farewell to the Saddledome.
Pretty neat that it will be old team vs new team.
I'm moving to Seattle on Friday.
