Fighting in hockey always has an appeal for the first-time fan. It's the one thing in the game that you can understand without knowing anything about the rules.

You don't see it as often, but bench-clearing brawls do occur in baseball, and unlike hockey, the participants are not necessarily ejected from the game.

Bench clearing events in baseball rarely amount to anything though. Usually just symbolic. In hockey punches are actually thrown.
