Well, God actually does code… but only operating systems. For application stuff, he created users.

There is a very old hacker joke that God's email is ‘root@universe.org’.

The Flames-Oilers games from that season kind of run together in the memory. Here are the scores from the Saddledome:

October 15: Oilers 4, Flames 3
December 26: Oilers 6, Flames 3
January 3: Oilers 9, Flames 6
March 27: Oilers 9, Flames 2

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to wash those scores down with some Pepto-Abysmal.

I remember they had free skating when it opened up. My parents took all three of us down to the dome for a skate.

Sounds like the first game I ever went to. It was mid to late in the season against the Oilers and the Flames lost 9-2.

You might be conflating it with the first Flames game at the Corral, which was a 5-5 tie vs. the Nordiques.

Why does it feel so strange now to see scores that are ties?

OK, I'm old enough to remember the hype around the Saddledome opening, I was 9 at the time. But why did they hire a 1920's newsreel announcer for this? Like we're talking 1983 here. We had Knight Rider, Miami Vice just was around the corner personal computers were becoming a thing.

Yet they hired the guy that voiced blimp accidents and the arrival of horseless carriage. I'm surprised he didn't open with "Coming to you from Calgary Alberta IN COLOR!" LOL

I have a book from 1982 called "Fire on Ice" which has a page dedicated to the yet-to-be-built arena. It's interesting because it refers to the building as the Calgary Olympic Coliseum then in quotes it says "The Saddle Dome."

Then we took them to 7 Games in the Division Final. I recently watched G7 on YouTube. Seems like a bit of a forgotten series in Battle of Alberta lore.

I want a frame by frame reproduction of this for when the new building opens.

1989 I feel was the first year that I can actually remember growing up. So much was going on in the city of Calgary. Fireworks all the time, collecting pins for some reason, olympics, Saddledome opening, Stanley cup, parades every 2 weeks.

It was a lot for a 5 year old to process man, I tell ya.
