This is good news and a nod towards the direction the team will be going in. They picked a guy who is 26 not 30+.
It’s the right call, I think.

Going with the younger player as captain is the right choice.
Anderson is well spoken and gives it everything on the ice and has that natural leadership that doesn't feel forced.

Ras - C
Weegar - A
Huby - A
That's my guess

I think Tanev and Backlund will keep their A's as long as they're here, but I could see them adding a couple more. The Flames have often had 4 A's in rotation.

Backlund gets an A as long as he’s here.

Its not even just that, but Backlund is too old now.
Even if he stays, its unlikely he's going to be re-upped and even if he is, it wont be for long. It makes much more sense to appoint a younger guy who is going to be around for a while.
Andersson was high among my list of choices too because he wants to be here, he likes it here, he's a leader and most of all, he plays with the sort of grit that drags his team into the fight.
This team needs more animosity. Its needs more 'hate to lose' and I think Andersson brings that and hopefully that becomes infectious.
This team as a whole needs to 'hate to lose.'
Not just..."aw, that was a bad one, okay, we'll try again tomorrow."

If the Flames go with four As, Tanev and Backlund also get As. Lindholm picks up Backlund's A after he departs.

Probably a good reason why to name him captain a great example for the team.
He put in his times and work off the ice to become the player he is today.

I have it from a good source that Huberdeau would rather not be Captain. I am sure he is fine with it. Huberdeau doesn't need the C to be a leader.

Not my first choice and I find some of his antics on the ice obnoxious but he seems committed to the team and for the most part I think the people involved with the team know a hell of a lot more about this than anyone else so assuming it is who the majority of the team support it is a good choice.

Uhh...I dont know about that.
I mean, I was wrong about him as well, but a lot of that had to do with his conditioning. He consistently came into Camp overweight, to the point where we dubbed him 'Fatmus Andersson.'
Something changed. Something clicked in him and he just changed.
And now he's kicking ass and taking names!

I thought Kylington was going to be the better player, and was stoked when we got them in the same year/round.
Fell in love with Raz's general grumpiness on the ice though. He's a good and fun player to watch.

He'd be a great choice. Was super impressed by his Sportsnet interview this off season and his play speaks for itself. I think he'd have more swagger than what the Flames usually look for in captains as well, which would be an interesting change. Give him the C.

Also, don't forget that at a mere 22 years old, Raz already knew that the Oilers suck and he hated them. He was clearly born to be captain of the Flames.

The quote where we got the Fatmus Sandwichsson name from lol:
“One of the best soup and sandwich spots that I’ve ever been to,” Andersson said. “We ate lunch there every day. Every time they saw us, they knew exactly what we were going to order.”
