Markstrom is more high ceiling, low floor, while Talbot is more of the high floor type where you know what you will get and it's NHL average. Marky will always have that one season but he's been pretty bad the season before and after. Maybe that means he's due for for a bounce back season which wouldn't be surprising considering the Flames in general seem to oscillate between good and bad seasons.

When Talbot was in Calgary I felt he was exposed as a be big goalie that didn't have a whole lot of athleticism. Top shooters picked him apart in the shooting zones.

I don't think he takes you anywhere.

Markstrom ... was great against Dallas and they don't win that series without that level of goaltending. Then against Edmonton not so much ...

Will be interesting.

Edmonton fans thought he was always the top candidate to win the Vezina when he was in Edmonton. Don't ask their fans now though because now they'll tell you he was the worst goalie who ever goalied.

He hasn't finished in the top 3. However, he was in the conversation in the 2016-2017 season as an Oiler. He finished 4th in Vezina voting that year. (42-22-8, 0.919 save percentage, 2.39 GAA).

Obviously today Talbot wouldn't be a fit, but in retrospect he probably would've been a better fit for Sutter's tenure over letting him walk to sign markstrom. They needed a goalie with a higher floor, or at least more consistency in general. Even if that meant average performances.

In large part, one game lost Talbot his spot.

Markstrom is on a long term contract. Talbot was not.

Thats how oiler fans roll.

Now Kostin and Yamamoto (who played massive parts in extending their playoff run) are suddenly overrated junk while a guy who's made of glass and some nobodies are going to take them all the way.

The ficklest of the fickle.

Just watch them turn on McDavid when he moves on too. Then and only then will they see his flaws as a captain.

This just tells me too many Oiler reporters have votes.

Everyone loved him in 16/17. Lots of fans started to turn on him in 17/18 and didn't have many supporters left in 18/19. Fans are fickle. You had some Flames fans already turning on Markstrom after his Vezina calibre year because of one bad series.

Last season, Yamamoto was supposed to be the player that was going to get them Karlsson with salary retained. Now he is inconsequential.

Reminds me of how so many people thought Treliving was a great GM, wizard etc and then when he left- he left the biggest mess and was such a horrible GM.

Dude - go look at the poll.

And I don't think anyone who said he was a good gm changed their tune just because he left.
