Really sucks for Flames fan that the move away from INTL tournaments coincided with our team having a lot of potential participants.

USA:
Gaudreau
Tkachuk
Hanafin

CAN:
Tanev? (Prob not, but really would be on any other INTL team)
Giordano
Brodie?
Hamilton?

SWE
Lindholm
Andersson
Markstrom
Backlund
Kylington?

RUS
Zadorov

When your whole core is Olympic calibre players, you should have a good time. I think some international experience for those players could have done wonders for them while they were here.

Nonetheless, these are two sports where both occur.

Also, I care about the basketball World Championships, and am quite interested to see how Canada fares, especially with this being potential Olympic qualifying for them.

Beating Russia at hockey is good for world peace.

I don’t care what Putin is doing in Ukraine - you can’t argue it’s worse than whatever the Soviets were doing in 1972. Or 76. Or 80. Or 87.

The Russians get ideas that they’re better at hockey than the rest of us, it’s bad for business. They invaded Ukraine two days after failing to defend their gold medal.

Thanks, Finland. You set them off on the wrong foot. You saved the world.

Would love more international hockey. Here is my solution:

-Take a 3 week international break every February. Ditch the All Star game.

-Olympics in Olympic years.

-World Cup in non Olympic even years.

-Odd years are for tournament qualifications and friendlies.

Gio and Brodie? That's a stretch

For a time. Gio should have been on the 2014 team IMO. Then there was no 2018 team, Gio won the Norris the following season. I think he would have made a strong case to be on the 2018 team. Brodie arguably as good at the time and there was a history of taking players with built in chemistry.

Point is, these guys all missed even the opportunity of it out there which I think would have really sucked as they watch their peers get those shots earlier or as kids watching their favourite players in the 1998-2014 games (mostly 2002 and 2010).

Olympics was a great idea that has now been taken over by grifters and authoritarian states.

Time to stop attending and viewing and come up with something new for best on best.

NHL owners don't want to shutdown the season once every four years let alone every year. American markets do the best in February (no football, no baseball)

I didn’t watch one minute of last World Cup. Team Young Guns! Was that on Nickelodeon?

It was a gimmick, no doubt... but one of the most entertaining teams there.

This one was more so because I was out with a bunch of friends watching the game and the euphoria after Canada won it was just unmatched. Since then, not much has given the same amount of excitement.

Preach my friend.

And I know Cam. We're soccer fans (despite team affiliation differences). But the IOC is one of the only sporting organizations as corrupt as FIFA.

Sweet. Well I listed 13 other players. It's pondering of a parallel, non-existent reality. We don't all have to agree.
