Would have been awesome watching him run around and sit in the penalty box for 15 plus minutes as the other team pounds you.

So let's say the team votes to name either Backlund or Tanev Captain. You plan on trading them this year, what do you do?

If Backlund leaves, then Huberdeau is next choice. As he Is the team's face
But if between Weegar and Andersson, it should be Andersson. He is home grown player.

I want another year to see who can lead this team. Assuming Backlund is traded too. Who will step up?

I think it makes sense to give it to Huberdeau. It's his team now.

I don't care who's named captain and I question how much it really matters.

I don't see any other player on the team whose game would take off to another level after being named captain. A case could be made for Huberdeau, he's good with the media, good with the young players, and could be the MVP of this team offensively. However that would put even more pressure on him to produce, pressure he hasn't handled well so far.

Kadri didn't even occur to me until reading this, there is merit here. I don't think the pride and responsibility that comes with the C would be lost on him, (as strange as that may sound after seeing his GAF level in the second half of last season) Kadri could really elevate if made leader of the pack.

Anderson. Got hit by a truck and hits like a truck. Leadership is about what you do not what you say.

Team has been without a captain for two years. Conroy outright said, a captain will be named this season.

Yeah, we definitely didn't hear direct examples from players when the season ended as to how much it matters, lol.

Yeah, I was just trying to think who could benefit the most from the increased roll and responsibility. The way Gio became an all-star after, and a Norris candidate right after becoming captain. I also was thinking that I want a captain who will be pissed about losing, Huberdeau, Weegar, and Backlund don't strike me as that guy.
A good argument can be made for Andersson. However, he strikes me as someone that can be immature at times. Like when he tried to steal the game puck from a guy scoring his first NHL goal during the COVID season. I also found it funny/interesting he made Mangiapane cook for him(they were just joking about it), when they both moved to the A from Barrie.

Raz.....100% He talks the talk and walks the walk.
Huska spoke highly of how hard he works....after practices , putting in.the extra time...asking for more....doing more....thats a.leader.
The guy impresses the heck out of me . Jokes abound back before he became a fulltime flame .....no longer Fatmus Andersson .....he's earned it.

Fair point. I just want to see who steps up in a leadership role without Sutter in the way.

It’s really hard to pick without knowing the future for the potential candidates. We also don’t exactly know which guys are true vocal leaders in the room.
I’d say Backlund and Tanev seem like lead by example, experienced, good character, high effort, well respected kind of guys but we don’t know how much longer they’re going to be here. If the end of their time as a Flame is near then maybe take them off the list.
Zadorov is another who you’d expect you could put in the Backlund/Tanev group. He’s certainly vocal, super intelligent, and seems to like it here but I don’t have a sense if he gels with all of the players or not and we don’t know if Conroy intends to extend him.
Andersson is definitely looking like a player who could be a Flame for quite a while. Hard to imagine him being quiet off the ice. He could potentially be the best choice.
Huberdeau and Weegar have the longest contracts and we need them to be leaders with or without letters. They both come across as high character guys but will the guys who’ve been around longer lean towards someone they’ve had years with instead.
If Lindholm signs long he’d probably be a potential option from the players perspective but he’s too mellow and reserved off ice in my opinion.
Maybe Coleman should be captain.
