Billy Powers is listed as a fourth pro scout now. Eliteprospects says that he was a Flames' amateur scout for the past several seasons.


It looks like the only thing that's missing from the Flames' scouting crew now is more European scouts

The Flames website also no longer lists Derek MacKinnon as part of the staff.

Treliving brought MacKinnon as a pro scout from the Coyotes. MacKinnon was promoted to Director of Player Personnel in 2017.

IIRC MacKinnon did a lot of European scouting. He was the one that found Rittich after going to scout Daniel Pribyl.

Believe he also scouted Panarin who the Flames were a finalist for before he chose Chicago.

Richardson talks about retirement, and the opportunity in CGY.


He's going to be the western scout. Mostly scouting ANA, LA, Vegas, ARI etc. He plans to go to about 15 NHL games/month. Not that much travel, except the occasional game in VAN.

The reserve list any play whose rights they hold. Could be an unsigned college player, a newly drafted guy not yet signed or someone in Europe they drafted.
