Why wasn't Kerins good enough to make the AHL last year, but still good enough for folks to see him as a legit prospect?

The problem with Kerins is he is smallish and doesn't have any skill that makes him really stand out. He isn't overly quick, isn't strong on the puck, and his shot needs work. All of this was evident in junior, but junior is where you can get by on smarts and instincts. This to me is where Kerins has an edge. He's got a really good read of the game and anticipates where the play is going. Most importantly the puck seems to follow him around (like Suniev) and gives him a chance to score. He's the type of player that needs to start in the ECHL and work his way up, refining his game and improving on those skill gaps. He's got a longer road ahead of him but he could still get there. Personally he's not in the top 20 for me, but could work his way up as he shows growth. Lots of players have made the trek and Kerins is a player that could do it.

Not saying any of those discussed are sure fire NHL stars (most won't make it at all) ... but a good sign that there are about 6-8 players being discussed in round 12.

Emilio Pettersen has progressed to the point where even if he doesn't become an every day NHLer, he was a great 6th round pick.
Being a near-PPG player in the AHL is an impressive accomplishment in its own right.
Since he has continued to progress so consistently, there's reason to think that will stop now.

All I can get

Expectations for Sergeev are somewhat muted because of the dominance of Dustin Wolf in the system, but nonetheless he's highly touted. Physically more of the prototypical NHL goalie. Would not be surprised to see him turn pro next summer, given the one-year placeholders the organization have signed.

I think I heard Ciona mention he worked with Danielle Fujita throughout the season. Player development is a year round thing, not just dev camp and training camp. I imagine Lipinski and all prospects connect with Fujita throughout the year. Probably easier for players in the WHL, when they come play the Hitmen, to get 1 on 1 training

He looked not bad speed-wise at dev camp, but there’s still work to be done. He has a lot of skill, though.

What is your scouting report on him? I've seen you seem very passionate about the fanbase undervaluing him so I'd be curious if you had some kind of intel on him? Have you seen him play alot?

I went Ronni, but Sergeev, Bell, then Kerins, Ciona, Schwindt, then Yegerov getting consideration...
Like Bingo, pleased to see 6-8 prospects truly in the running at this point...

I've heard so little about Ronni.
Are we optimistic?

I did a little write-up on him in the round #9 thread. He’s 6’2”, and plays with a chip on his shoulder, and has a good 200-ft game. He was the second best player in the U20 league playoffs en route to winning the championship. I’m hoping he becomes a Backlund-type. I think he’s got a high floor.

Would not have voted for Sergeev but the comments in this thread convinced me, which is what makes these fun. Opportunity to hear other POVs and alter your own.

In these mid-round picks, I have been voting for progression, so Pettersen it is!
