Not sure the loss of Klim Kostin is that big of a blow.

They still have to sign McLeod and Bouchard. There will be more to give in order to make this work.

Kostin and Yamamoto in the bottom 6, and possibly McLeod. And Ryan turns 37 in Dec. Their bottom 6 was the best it's been in 30 years last year, but will be worse again this year.

Nuge with 104 points - 35 more than in any other season. Shouldn't be hard to repeat that.

Also career years for McDavid (by 30), Draisaitl (by 18), Hyman (by 29), and Nurse. That's their top 5 scorers (with Kane missing time). Shouldn't be too hard to repeat that.

Finally, Skinner was actually really good all year, until he fell apart for the playoffs.

Oh, and a PP that had a season for the ages.

Here are JFresh's rankings. He did predict Boston last year, also had Vegas in the playoffs etc.
No way Calgary is ahead of LA.

Uhhh, Winnipeg?

Were these standings decided by a jump to conclusions mat?

LA is nothing special

some decent old and some decent young players...I didn't see much improvement last season and I don't love their trade

Its based on roster players...some of which they will likely lose before the season starts

I'm not sure what's dumber, Winnipeg 1st in the central or 24th overall.

The vast majority of the time players 28 or younger have the possibility of improving the next season. The vast majority of the time players that are 29 or older trend downward in subsequent seasons.

LA has the following players that will be 28 or younger next year and probably on their team

Brandt Clarke
Quinton Byfield
Kaliyev
Anderson-Dolan
Anderson
Lizotte
Grundstrom
Kempe
Fiala
Moore
Roy
Dubois

Flames have

Coronato
Pelletier
Ruczika
Duehr
Hanifin
Andersson
Dube
Mangiapane
Yegor
Lindholm
Zadorov

I would personally bet on Byfield, Kaliyev, Fiala and Dubois having big seasons, much better than last year. The potential for those 4 far outweighs the potential improvement of the 4 best improved players in the Flames category of players that statistically are more likely to keep improving. Hard to see any scenario where the Flames roster on paper can be expected to be better than the Kings.
