But much like the Flames and their experience, you can't head into an off season with star players as pending UFA's. You just can't. There is a shift in the NHL, a rightful one, where a star players final summer under contract is being treated as their last if no deal is made.

I am hearing the Calgary Flames are not on his list. This is not from my Flames source but another source I have closer to home. Now I don't have near as much faith in this source as my Flames source so take it with a grain of salt. Not sure how this source could see Nylander's list or get that info.

Aside from the fact he was born here because his dad played here at that specific time, he has no real connection to Calgary. He'd have been 2 or 3 when he left Calgary.

Nylander knows Lindholm, Kylington, Markstrom, and Kadri. Not sure about Andersson or Backlund. I don’t think he’d be opposed to it, especially if he is the clear-cut #1 RW here. Unless his dad had some really bad things to say about Calgary.
I know it’s a pipe dream with all the cap issues but I would love it if we could land Nylander

That would be sweet.
I vaguely recall reading that Nylander Sr. loved his time in Calgary, maybe he passed that affinity on to Nylander Jr.?
Then again, I'd have read that eons ago, feelings change and perception of teams and organizations shift, so who knows.

Wouldn't it have to be something like Hanifin + Backlund to the Leafs to make cap room for Nylander to the Flames?
*As noted by Sage - the leafs are currently $5 mil over the cap with the Bertuzzi signing.

Really happy with this deal. Whenever I watched the Flames in the past I always was jealous of the FU attitude your team had. If Tree wants to do that with the Leafs I'm all for it. Sick of watching skill players with no heart. Maybe these additions can help the Leaf star grow some balls.
