Would love to see a trade and then a day 2 value UFA signing on a shorter term deal. Let’s see what happens.

I think it is basically a toss-up between the two in terms of what to expect on the ice, so they might as well go with the much cheaper locally sourced kid.

I wonder if the Flames consider bringing back Connor Mackey. I think Conroy was responsible for scouting and signing college free agents. Maybe like Phillips, Mackey gets better opportunity without Sutter

Still need players for the Wranglers

It is being suggested that Yamamoto would cost you a league minimum contract, the same as what Phillips is going to cost you. But you would go with the older player who has a stat line of 3-0-0-0 instead of a player with a younger player with a stat line of 244-50-68-118? I don't think either player has a role on the Flames as they are too small as it is, but given a choice between the two the choice is automatic. You go with the player who has shown he can score in the NHL. Going with Phillips over Yamamoto because he's a local kid? Hot take.

No. Going with Phillips over Yamamoto, because the gap between them is miniscule. Signing Yamamoto is redundant.

Maybe, but Yamamoto is a former first rounder who has had decent production. And who maybe got stunted in Edmonton. Phillips has never made a dent. IMO Yamamoto would be a much safer signing than Phillips.

It doesn’t matter much since neither will get a contract that can’t be buried.

Happy 46th Jarmoe! Hope you help to keep your buddy on an even keel today (as hopefully Maloney and Nonis also do).

With the draft handled so carefully (no trades), I wonder if the cap space issue makes day one of UFA day quiet as well.

Kind of makes me miss those years before the 2013 CBA where the astronomically long contracts got handed out. 14 years for Shea Weber, 12 for Parise and Suter, 17 for Kovalchuk, etc

Any short list of the kind of guy Conroy might sign. I know he said no big contracts.

Not to me. I hope we don't touch anything on that list.

Dumba seems to have been on a decline since he tore his pec vs us.

On a 1 or 2 year deal he might work.
