If he makes a roster would Phillips be the smallest player in NHL history?

Might be the lightest. Not the shortest

based on what!
Yamamoto has had a 41 point NHL season, he would dominate the AHL too

Based on comparisons of their production at every level. Of course Yamamoto would dominate the AHL—just like Philips.

I do remember when Rooney was waived and Phillips brought up, the argument was made that every NHL player would dominate the AHL ... sheesh did that not turn out to be true at all

Yeah that 140 is what I meant, forgot Gerbe was 5’4”. I just can’t fathom how 140lbs plays the NHL game. Go to Europe and dance around on the big ice

AHL has him at 160 fwiw but he's very very tiny nevertheless. Only one way to find out though.

Go get it, kid.

Unless he came to camp with tree trunks for lower legs, I’m just not seeing a future in the show.

I think he's gone from Calgary unless they give him a much better deal.

He was pretty sour after last year.

lol i remember the conversation specifically being that any NHL grinder or fourth-liner would be an AHL superstar

nevertheless, yes, I agree, and I would ease up on saying Phillips is better than Yamamoto, but I do think he's much better than Rooney and a lot of NHL depth guys

I'm not sure any team has seen enough of him to offer him a 1 way deal. In fairness to him, if I were him, I'd test free agency first too, just to see. If nothing better comes along, he can most likely circle back with the Flames. I feel like Connie's also giving him that opportunity, and he wouldn't be the type to just pull the contract off the table if Phillips didn't get any offers.

Phillips closest comparable for me has always been Czarnik. No doubt they can produce offense, but their play away from the puck is too weak. Very few players are prolific enough to get away with a poor 200ft game.

more skilled for sure
better at a fourth line role? no

I think Rooney was pretty important to the Wranglers actually
