And this is exactly why they can never win again. The worst fans in the NHL.

Totally.

So he didn’t like being publicly belittled by Torts and doesn’t want to spend the prime of his career in Winnipeg? I don’t blame him.

How did the Kings go from winning 2 cups to rebuilding to becoming a contenders again within a decade. Great management.

PLD has work ethic issues IMO. He's a coaster most games. I'm sure his value is high because he's young, can technically hit, and has decent enough speed. Plus I'm sure teams want their own derivation of Tkachuk. Not a fan of the guy though, so good luck to whomever gets him. He's certain to take that big cheque and coast thereafter.

This will do nothing but further cement our position outside of the top-3 in the Pacific. Soon enough Anaheim and Arizona’s ascension will begin as well.

The time for a strategic restructuring for the Flames is certainly now.

Agreed, but no need to worry about Arizona. They aren’t in the division.

I just hope there is a market building for Lindholm if indeed he is not staying. Certain teams may want to clear assets or make other moves to fit him in long term. If Flames are still trying to re-sign him the trade market may not have developed yet.

Just look at Flames history. Some of the worst overpays (Hamonic) were for players who were openly on the market for a long period of time. Some of the better trades (Hanifin, Lindholm) were for guys not widely known to be available.

absolutely. That's why I'm so happy that those 2024 UFAs are forcing their hands ... it's such a unique chance to right the ship. I know ownership is reluctant to rebuild, but at some point, you just have to look into the mirror and be honest to yourself.

I don’t think giving up Iofallo and Vilardi as all that much. LA doesn’t have much draft capital, so it can’t involve a 2023 1st.

PLD is a good player, but the real cost might be cap space. I can’t help but think his ask is going to be in the 8 range.

...I guess it still impacts our ability to get into a wildcard spot though!

Whoa whoa whoa...whoa now. Who's talking about rebuild? I mentioned strategic restructuring!

Grab Byfield please. Where is he going to get ice time with Kopitar/Danault/PLD?

He's been playing wing.

No way they give up on him.

If Montreal loses out on PLD maybe they move the 5th for Lindholm (extended) and 16?
Half kidding but wouldn’t that be something.

I’d be even more excited about them taking Huby. I’d throw in one of the pending FAs for free.

The money is all wrong though.

That's like saying Phillip Rivers is better than John Elway because his stats are better. At the end of the day, greatness is measured in championships.

If Villardi and Iafallo are the return it's not horrid for a return but its extending the mediocrity. Two guys who are wingers for a center. Villardi finally took a step forward last year and Iafallo would produce more with a bit more more ice time.

Dubois if they can play him at Center would make the Kings pretty strong up the middle though. Although Danault is a bit like Backlund where he doesn't seem like an ideal 2C, but when you try to slot him as a 3C...he tends to step up and take that role back. So I could see that making PLD sulk as opposed to stepping up to the challenge.

A Villardi and Iafallo return is the kind of underwhleming re-tool return that I worry Conroy will go for.

It isn't terrible as Vilardi looks like he could be a decent 2nd line player and helps the team where PLD wants out, but that isn't anything that does more than keep Winnipeg fighting for the last play-off spot and a first round exit.

I think they have to beat Edmonton to even be considered contenders. Losing to them two years in a row doesn’t show they are going anywhere.

Agreed. Blake flubbed the Petersen contract, but was able to trade it away.

Danault was a sneaky good signing, plus the Fiala and Arvidsson trades.

He's doing a fine job thus far.

Maybe now but when a team is trading for a long term player the value of a 24 year old is far higher than a 28 year old. Dubois is trending up and just going into his prime.

I think many people are going to be disappointed in the return for Lindholm.
