Phoenix has a ton of picks over the next 3 drafts . They have 9 seconds and 9 Thirds!

They also have a ton of cap space . I expect them to use those picks to get players other teams need to move for cap reasons like Seattle did

Phoenix will be an emerging powerhouse right in time to move to SD in 2 seasons and start really spending , and make all Flames fans annoyed

Assuming they dont screw it up like they have in the past.

Phoenix? Are they being call Phoenix again?

Anyhow, they've always have tons of picks and haven't seen them doing anything with the picks for year.

Yeah, they sell their cap space for picks but they don't want to spend any actual dollars.

Again, people have been saying this for years.

The best thing Chucky ever did as a Flame was get Kassian that contract.

Their main issue is never winning the lottery.

But SD will be ready to make a splash with their relocated Coyotes NHL team and probably win the cup quickly to annoy Canadian fans even more !

Internal cap doesn't really do much when you're buying out a guy like Kassian for 1.5M (spread out over 2 years) and bringing in a replacement player making 0.8M for a total of 2.3M when he's being paid 2.3M.

I think it's much more simple with Kassian and that he just flat out sucks and likely isn't a good locker guy.

And it gives a chance for anyone else in the organization. I mean put out a pylon with a sign saying "Reserved for future 2024 draft pick" and you'd still get more out of it than having Kassian on the ice.

Kassian was making 3.2, not 2.3. The savings with Nemeth are much larger, too.

But you're also right. Kassian was the Coyotes' worst player last year by a significant margin. Getting any warm body out there would be an upgrade.

No, his cap was 3.2M but his salary would have been 2.3M. It was frontloaded 3.5M for the first 3.

So even replacing him with a league minimum player doesn't save them any money (though a chunk of it would be paid a year later). I think it's pretty indicative that the Coyotes would rather pay Kassian to not be in the room than in it.

As pointed out, you're thinking of retained salary trades. However, Vancouver buying out OEL does extend the retention from 2027 to 2031. Would be nice and poetic if that somehow came back to bite them in the ass.

Oh sure, but we're talking about different things. I'm referring to the cap itself, and I'm sure ownership has probably set a certain upper limit there, too.

If anything they would need to worry about reaching the floor, not having an upper artificial ceiling for no reason. One of the reasons they took on Weber and Voracek as pathetic as that is.

When is their billionaire owner going to do something? Or are they just trying to force a relocation seeing how receptive the expansions have been?

I feel like if they were trying to force a relocation, it would've been done by now.

It’s true that they have lots of assets but they keep losing them or they turn into nothing. They are already in danger of losing some of the players they have been tanking for years to get. Logan Cooley is doing another year of college because of the dumpster fire that the organization is… I could easily see that player choosing to stay in college until he’s a FA if all he gets to do in Arizona is keep playing in a college arena anyways. It seems like Clayton Keller may want out as well.

You keep missing my shot at Arizona that they will be moved to SD into the new arena district and then become good at that point as their draft picks and young players all mature right at the exact point they move into a large market and can spend

... are we pretending that San Diego is in any way a bigger market than the Phoenix metro?
