Killer 6th round pick for the Devils. I would love to know who on the Devil's staff was responsible for identifying him.

They bridged him a couple times. Or short termed him on "show me" contracts if you prefer.

Yeah they gave him a 2 year and then a 1 year coming off his ELC...or pretty much the exact same as just giving Tkachuk a 3 year.
If Tkachuk had just agreed to re-sign after the 3 year term they'd be in the exact same scenario as New Jersey were with Bratt.

Even if he suffers and can't get open ice during 5v5 and open ice is available having guys who can produce is important with how important specialty teams are now.

I have literally never heard of this player. Not the first big money signing recently where that was the case. Clearly I’m out of the loop around the nhl.

Great deal for NJ. Probably would’ve had to trade this player right about now had they won the Gaudreau sweepstakes.

I actually thought he'd end up being dealt because they certainly were not on the same page in past negotiations. I think last time he was close to being a hold out.
But yes, it seems silly to hold this up as "look how the Flames screwed up" .

Thanks, I get it. I only looked at his age and thought he still had time for another bridge. I didn't realize he already had 6 NHL seasons under his belt and was UFA eligible after next season.
Good for the Devils that the strategy didn't blow up in their face.

Led the Devils with 64.8 xGF AT 5V5 in that series.
But was on the ice with a .815 save percentage and a 2.86% shooting percentage.
So 64.8% xGF became 16.7% actual GF% (GF 1, GA 5)

Did you actually watch him in that series or are you just quoting stats?

I watched the series and thought he was fine. We disagreed about New Jersey the whole time and you seem to think they are terrible.
Players always look bad when the puck ends up in the back of their net...but honestly sometimes it's tough to look good when you have .812 goaltending behind you.
The stat help tell the story that he wasn't having an issue in actually generating the chances.

Stats tell part of the story true, but should never be used as only thing to draw conclusions. I thought he was totally neutered in that series and the two assists he had in that series was in that blowout game where Andersen sucked and Carolina as a whole were off.
I think NJ as a whole will be a good regular season team but after watching once again what an absolute bloodbath it is to win multiple rounds in the playoffs, yes I think that team will never go far with the way it is built. I don't really understand people glamouring over their rebuild.

I think some people forget that the Canes were without their best forward for the entire playoffs.

I wanted Bratt in a deal for Tkachuk if they went with NJ, and I thought it was possible given they'd had trouble with his contract there before.

Because he was a 30 point 6th round draft pick, not one of your highest picks and potential franchise players.

His last contract was one year after a near PPG season.
