Shop them and gather assets.
One issue I see is that a couple of those guys could potentially fetch more at the trade deadline, but the Flames don't want to put themselves in tbe position of being in playoff contention and wanting to hang on tomtheir UFAs.
Only guy I'd hesitate on is Hanifin purely because of age. He's young enough that he could be a true stud on Defense when the retool is complete.
I think I had heard somewhere that Toffoli likes it here and may be open to staying, which I find interesting because I seem to remember his wife really liked Montreal and didn't want to leave.
From an asset management perspective it makes no sense to keep Toffoli, but I can't help but like guys who like it here.

I'm with you, but I still wouldn't mind holding onto Mangi, Dube, Weegar, Raz, and Kylington. Oh and that young big dude we re-signed.

I wouldn’t be so quick to get rid of hanifin. He may not stand out, but I thought I recall he was gone for a couple games and the flames were a defensive tire fire (worse than usual).

Well, that's the big question. If he does want to extend, I would guess that's Conroy's first preference, but if he wavers on that, he'll get moved.

If he won’t sign a reasonable extension, the Flames need to move him, period.

I would suggest the opposite.
The both want to move older players approaching UFA who appear to be tough signs.
Why trade for each other’s problems?

100%. That’s also exactly what should happen to any player with value who isn’t willing to commit going into their final season. This team can no longer afford to lose high end talent and get nothing in return.

Welp. I honestly figured Hanifin would be one of the guys Conny would try to extend the most next to Lindy. But if he doesn’t want to stay, might as well sell high

I hope not. I would like to see any return be focused on a good young cost controlled player. Not one that can walk to ufa after next season. Need to get younger and cheaper. Understand that it is unlikely we rebuild, but getting a good young player that can step in and contribute should be the goal here, especially if there is a bidding war. Don’t screw this up conny!

Hopefully this means he is gone, along with many others, but I doubt we are that lucky.

This summer could define Conroy as a GM.

To me, he’s solid, he’s good, but he’s nothing special. If the value is there get assets and get younger.

Hanifins been extremely consistent.
Probably the lowest risk extension out of the UFA group, assuming you get him around 6.5x7. Moving him would leave a pretty big hole in the d core.
If he won't re-sign you obviously move him.
The big question for me is in the situation if lindy won't re-sign but hanifin would. Do you re-sign hanifin even if you're loosing your 1c? Or do you try and sell whoever you can at that point?

I guess it depends on how much Hanifin was signing for. You could always trade him later down the line if you need to, depending on trade clauses and all that of course. It would also depend on what the plan was to replace Lindholm.
I am not sure how much something like this does, or should play into it, but if Hanifin wanted to stay and re-sign at market rates, it would be a pretty big PR win for a club that has taken a lot of hits over the past year.
No matter what happens with Hanifin, the guy has been a great soldier for this team. He always seemed to give it his best and never complained.

If you trade Hanifin, suddenly our D looks questionable. The first pairing is still going to Andersson-Weegar, which is excellent, but would a second pairing of Kylington-Tanev be as good as they were in 2021-22 under a new coach, and after OK has missed a year of hockey? Will Stecher return to solidify the bottom pairing? Do we want Stone to play a full 82 games? If Hanifin wants out, then trade him, but if he goes, we'll be looking for another Hanifin- and OK is not as good as Hanifin.
