Because they could threaten to cross the floor?
I had thought about the possibility, but I think that it is unlikely. It would be the death of their political career and would make them a target for threats of violence.

^ Also none of them have shown any spine in the last four years. Not a single one of them could even manage to muster up a public condemnation when Danielle described 70% of Albertans as actual nazis.
A wounded but still living animal is dangerous, and a small UCP majority is going to give more power to the TBA fringe who will push even harder for their agenda.

Hopefully Alberta votes NDP and tosses this UCP trash out.
Didn't think it could get any worse than Jason Kenney but here we are.

Not cross the floor. Just vote with the NDP on any more radical items.

It would currently take ~20 to all go the other way which is just not feasible so perhaps no one bothered to have a spine since they only incurred risk. With a tiny majority, the hammer would be held by just a couple so having a spine is much more likely to result in a difference.
I'm also happy to let the conservatives wander in the wild for a few years in hopes they pivot to the centre. But that also seems risky since its seems impossible for anyone to actually figuring out socially liberal fiscally conservative. Though Maritime Q Scout's Tim Houston example gives one hope.

Alternatively, wouldn't be sad with slim NDP majority either. In hopes the blue NDPers help keep things in check.
Moral of the story, I'm rooting for a slim majority either way.

If they vote to help the NDP pass or block something once they will be booted out of the party by the next election. I'm sorry, but it is naďve in 2023 politics to not believe the vast, vast majority of all politicians, regardless of party, won't toe the party line on every single vote. Politicians are just like normal folk when it comes to job security, they won't jeopardize it for "the greater good" or whatever. And the NDP aren't a viable long term entity, if by chance they win tonight they will have won their two elections because the PCs and then UCP had such unpalatable choices, and that the NDP got tons of default votes and not actual votes of support.

To the first point, 100% guarantee anyone who doesn't vote along party lines is kicked out. It's a de facto floor crossing.
Do you honestly think Danielle Smith will allow free votes? Ms. Freedom will whip that party like no one before her.
As for who would have a spine, we've seen what the "Adults" in the room will do.
Toews, and Jean would both be terrible leaders, but somehow not as bad as Danielle Smith, and they both got in line pretty freaking quick.
It will never be a few backbenchers who stand up, it's gotta be the ones who have any sort of sway, and so far they've shown no interest in doing that.

Many of the radical items can be implemented by the executive (ministry) alone, with the leguslature's sole recourse being a vote of non-confidence.

It's kind of like, Florida Panthers might win a game, and that's generous.

This might shock you, but many people here are voting NDP. I presume you've voted for the person who has already been found guilty of breaking the conflict of interest act, gets advice from the nuttiest not-professors around, lies every time her lips move, doesn't understand tax brackets, or that we live by the rules of Canada and not the US? Plenty more, but if that's the kind of incompetent criminality you support, it kinda reflects on you. Keep LOLing though, proud person.
